The
opening sequence of this romantic comedy involves the meeting of
two college based characters in New Zealand.
We
have New Zealander Rahul and Indian-born Esha who has just arrived
on this foreign soil for further studies.
Rahul,
being rebellious by nature, has always had a carefree attitude.
Esha on the other hand might have a modern outlook on life but is
a true Indian at heart.
Friendship
turns into love as Rahul is attracted by Esha's simplicity and innocence.
As for Esha she takes a fancy to Rahul's honest fun-loving attitude.
The
romance carries on for over a year until it is time for Esha to
go back home after graduation. They promise to meet again in the
near future.
Upon hearing the good news of Rahul and Esha's relationship, their
respective parents decide to get them married. But
although Rahul truly loves Esha, he feels very strongly against
marriage. Why? Because he has seen his parents going through a stormy
marriage.
As for Esha, she
is in no way going to accept Rahul's idea of a live-in relationship! Hence from
here onwards, this romance goes through a series of many twists and turns until
it reaches a somewhat predictable climax.
However
full credit goes to director Sanjay Chhel who is the first to introduce
the concept of a live-in relationship to the Indian silver screen
- a novel idea which is sure to go down well with the audiences
who always want something very different from Bollywood these days.
The
cinematography is extremely colourful and glossy. Special mention
here goes to the editing department which has done a brilliant job
especially in the song sequences.
But
the highlight of this film is its musical score which is provided
by Himmesh Reshammiya. He is simply at his composing best in the
songs; 'Nikamma'; 'Taza Taza' and 'Zindagi Ye Dillagi Hain' which
does stick in audiences' minds long after they have left the cinema.
Of the cast, both
Tusshar Kapoor and Esha Deol have matured well with regards to their
performances since their debut films last year.
Both
of them exude an air of tremendous screen confidence which has not
been noticeable in their earlier films.
Overall
this flick has excellent music; great performances and brilliant
visuals. But most of all it has a different story line which makes
this film worth a look at your local cinema.
