Dil
Hai Tumaara (meaning ‘ My Heart Is Yours’) kicks off with the conflict
between Sarita, a widowed Mayoress of Palanpur and her step daughter
Shalu.
Sarita
simply cannot come to terms with the fact that her husband once
had a mistress and a daughter, Shalu by her.
What
makes matters worse is that Sarita has to take full responsibility
of Shalu’s life even though she has her own daughter Nimmu to contend
with.
Both
these sisters take to each other immediately like real siblings
despite the fact that they are totally different in character.
Shalu
is more vivacious, spirited and tomboyish whilst Nimmu is more of
an introvert with a feminine nature.
Yet
for Sarita this vibrant child is a heartbreaking memory of her husband’s
torrid love affair. So while she showers her love on Nimmu, she
is totally cold and heartless to Shalu.
Into
their lives enter the sophisticated Dev (Arjun Rampal), the son
of a business man who comes to close down the factory that is the
lifeline of the local people.
Then
there is Samir (Jimmy Shergil), a brilliant ventriloquist, who can
express his feelings only through his craft.
He
has loved Shalu very dearly since their childhood days. This is
where the twist in the story occurs when both these girls end up
falling in love with the same man - who happens to be Dev.
Step-mum
Sarita tries her level best to see that her own daughter, Nimmu
wins this war of love.
Soon
Shalu gets to know the truth and she decides to sacrifice her love
to help her sister.
So
will Sarita be able to overcome her innermost feelings for Shalu?
Is it too late for Shalu to reclaim her love for Dev? And what about
Samir? Where does he fit into this emotional scenario?
The
performance by actress Priety Zinta is simply superb. Praise also
goes to Mahima Choudhary for her touching performance throughout.
Rekha
fans will be pleased to see their favourite actress taking the role
of a mother for the first time on screen.
Do
take take note of her transparent sitting room floor with flowing
water underneath. Definitely a novel idea in interior design!
As
for Arjun and Jimmy, they both support well throughout the story
considering that this is a women oriented flick.
Cinematography
is average, although a few snips here and there might have done
the trick to bring it a few notches higher in the technical department.
Overall
this flick does grab the audience’s attention - especially the last
thirty minutes which consist of a gripping climax!
