Sur
鈥揟he Melody Of Life revolves around a successful singer by the name
of Vikramaditya Singh (Lucky Ali).
He
runs, as a passion, the country's biggest and most sought-after
music academy called Sur with his close friend Divya (Simone Singh).
This
prestigious place of learning is where any individual with the potential
to sing and create music is recognised, supported and encouraged.
Vikramaditya
鈥榮 main ambition in life is to find a successor who has the talent,
passion, need and drive to be him.
Hence
one fine day he accidentally stumbles across a Goan girl by the
name of Tina Marie (Gauri Karnik) whom he hears singing in a church.
Ecstatic
by his discovery, Vikramaditya sets off on a crusade to convince
a reluctant Tina to accept his invitation. This he achieves with
the help of Tina鈥檚 sister Rita (Divya Dutta).
Upon
her initial arrival, Tina is greeted with total dislike by Vikramaditya鈥檚
close associate, Divya. But with her exuberance and innocent nature,
Tina soon overcomes that hurdle.
Meanwhile
Vikramaditya is totally besotted by his new student. But soon he
falls prey to his own emotions of anger, jealousy and suspicion
when he learns that this young girl has began to overshadow his
own fame and fortune.
Devastated
by such revelations, a distressed Tina leaves the academy and goes
back to her church.
She
looses her self confidence to sing again as a result of this incident.
So she decides to become a nun.
It
is at this point that Vikramaditya realises his mistake and goes
back to Tina to ask for forgiveness to all his misdeeds.
But
will Tina succumb to Vikramadity鈥檚 apologies? Is he strong enough
to make that personal sacrifice in order to convince Tina to come
back? If he does succeed in his quest, how will he be able to bring
Tina back into the limelight once again?
Full
credit goes to director Tanuja Chandra for tackling such an unusual
subject. It鈥檚 very rare to find a film that focuses more on the
relationship of the teacher and the student rather than their intimate
personal relationship.
Performance
by debutant Lucky Ali is simply superb. This promising actor exudes
the most intense emotions through his eyes with great ease. What
a welcome change this makes in today鈥檚 Hindi cinema!
As
for actress Gauri Karnik, is a sheer natural. She successfully metamorphoses
into the various shades of her character with great ease.
The
highlight of the film is its musical score by M.M. Kreem which is
full of haunting melodies and inventive instrumentation. This further
enhances the beauty of the proceedings on screen.
Sur
on the whole is a brilliant film which defies all Bollywood norms
especially when it comes to its climax.
A film
which stand out tall amongst the recent releases. Definitely not
to be missed at all costs!
