'Hathyar'
meaning The Weapon, revolves around the family of Raghunath Shivalkar
who was killed at the end of the film, 'Vaastav'.
In
this sequel his son, Rohit grows up in the dark shadow of Raghunath
and as a result faces many a life's obstacles.
His
caring family includes his mother and grandmother with whom he always
had a close relationship. But that had not stopped him from growing
up into a notorious gangster.
Eventually
Rohit hits the big time in the underworld political scene and in
the process loses all those who have been close to him.
A restless
Rohit somehow finds solace in Shilpa (Shilpa Shetty) whom he marries
but a marital misunderstanding sees a distressed Shilpa leaving
her home.
She
finds comfort in Munna, who she treats as a brother, but Rohit,
who by now has lost all value for life, turns into a killing machine.
Hence
Shilpa is forced to witness the death of Munna (Sachin Khedekar)
at the hands of her crazed husband.
The climax scenes once again show how good triumphs over evil. But
while 'Vaastav' succeeds by portraying the emotions of the characters
involved, 'Hathyar' relies heavily on blood, gore, violence and
bad language.
Special
mention goes to director Mahesh Manjrekar who has extracted a superlative
performance from all his cast, especially Sanjay Dutt.
'Hathyar'
comes out a true winner in the technical department in that it is
shot on a lavish scale with breathtaking cinematography and life
like action sequences Hollywood style.
However
audiences who have not seen Vaastav will find this sequel difficult
to assimilate. But those who have will find the fast paced action
sequences and powerful performances a treat at the cinemas.
