Zindagi
Khubsoorat Hai (meaning 'A Wonderful Life') revolves around Amar (Gurdas
Maan), a struggling actor who has yet to make his mark in the Bollywood
industry.
In
the meantime, he makes a living by singing in nightclubs, where
he meets a call-girl by the name of Shalu (Tabu).
Shalu
is a head strong character by nature who has mapped out her life
well in advance. Soon both Amar and Shalu become friends and through
their close friendship they begin to share their respective dreams
and aspirations in life.
But a Bollywood film is a Hindi film with a typical twist which
comes in the form of an underworld boss by the name of Gul Baloch
(Ashish Vidhyarthi).
As
a father, Gul finds happiness in keeping his mentally challenged
daughter, Jamila happy who in turn is a big fan of Amar. Amar's
voice is the only element which keeps Jamila in a more sedate mood.
Hence
Gul goes to the extreme of abducting Amar for his daughter's sake
in order to help her mental development. Hence it's not long before
a reluctant Amar becomes close to young lovable Jamila.
Seeing such a close relationship, Gul proposes to Amar that he should
adopt young Jamila in case he is killed by rival gang members. A
kind hearted Amar immediately agrees.
Amar
then decides to take Jamila and Shalu to his home in Himachal Pradesh.
Why? This time to fulfill Shalu's dream of living the life of a
stress-free happy family.
This
results in both these adults falling for each other but Shalu's
dream soon shatters when she learns that Amar has now been offered
three film contracts in the city.
Hence
whilst Amar becomes busy with his new found venture, Shalu goes
back to her earlier life of a call-girl. When Amar finds out about
her 'night work', he proposes to marry provided that Shalu lives
her job.
But
soon his life changes on the day his film gets its world premiere.
He learns about Gul's death. Knowing that the life of his adopted
beloved daughter is now in danger, Amar must decide between his
glittering career, Jamila and Shalu .
Considering
that this film has no regular Bollywood star power, 'Zindagi Khoobsurat
Hai' comes out trumps with the brilliant performances by the lead
stars Tabu and Gurdas Mann.
On the musical front, Anand Raaj Anand and Hemant's musical score
is average. Best of the lot is 'Yara Dildara Ve' and 'Ishq Kiya
to Jana'.
Technically
the film has captured some breathtaking beauty of the Himachal mountains
which comes as a refreshing change in this day and age of shooting
song sequences on foreign locales i.e. Switzerland , Australia and
the UK!
Overall
it's a film which will entertain the whole family. If nothing else,
just go and watch Tabu in action.
