Yeh
Dil meaning 'the heart', is the story of Ravi (Tusshar) and Vasu
(Anita).
Despite
coming from contrasting backgrounds both youngsters find that they
have alot in common when they first meet at college.
Eventhough
the odds are stacked up against them, they prove that opposites
do attract no matter what obstacles come their way.
Ravi
is the son of a business tycoon while Vasu is the daughter of a
middle class family.
During
their time at college, their friendship gradually turns to love.
But their respective parents do not approve of this relationship.
They
give the young couple an ultimatum - they must stop seeing each
other for one year. And
if by the end of this long separation, their love still remains
strong, they can marry.
But
the twist comes when their respective parents do not keep their
side of the bargain.
Ravi's
father puts his son under house arrest in their Mumbai residence
whilst Vasu's father forcefully takes his daughter to their village.
There, he begins to make arrangements for Vasu's arranged marriage.
How
the lovers unite against all odds forms the climax of this Bollywood
melodrama.
Memories
of previous Bollywood love stories come flooding back while watching
this film. Nothing novel is offered in this recent version.
The
last few reels leading up to the climax appears very 'loud' and
violent. This could have been toned down a little, to accommodate
for the more sedate viewer.
However
director Teja has handled some of the sequences with great sensitivity
and deserves full credit. These include scenes involving the lovers
which will touch your heart.
Tusshar
Kapoor gets plenty of scope to display his acting talent whilst
Anita supports well as his girlfriend.
Nadeem-Shravan's
music does provide the right melodies to match with this romantic
story. The title song, tera dilbar, hey kya ladki
and college mein are the best of the lot.
On
the whole, Yeh Dil is an avarage fare. Whether the audience will
have the heart to give it a once over, only time will tell.
