The
story of Gangajaal (meaning holy water), unfolds in Tejpur,
a small town situated on the banks of the river Ganges.
|
Ajay
Devgan is police officer Amit Kumar
|
Amit
Kumar(Ajay Devgan) is the newly appointed police officer.
During
his initial walkabouts in town, he encounters a range of devious
characters.
These
include the young emperor Sandhu Yadav, the town’s journalist, Rasidas
and all the corrupted police officers who seem to turn a blind eye
on the dirty dealings around them.
|
Gracy
Singh is Anuradha, the wife of Amit Kumar
|
Amit
tries to breathe new life into an already stagnant police system.
But
whilst some of the officers begin to trust him by responding to
his orders, the others refuse to conform to Amit’s honest ways of
working.
Amit’s
inspiration leads to frustration as he is faced with a battle with
his own police force.
This
in turn leads to tension in his personal life. He becomes reserved
with his wife Anuradha (Gracy
Singh) which makes them grow apart.
|
Amit
Kumar tries to reform the corrupted police force
|
In
Gaagajaal, director Prakash Jha and actor Ajay Devgan come
together once again after their last film, Dil Kya Kare which
was a family oriented film.
On
the whole, Gaagajaal is a gritty, hard-hitting film based
on the police force.
The
film releases in the UK later on this month.
