The
film opens on colonel Ranvir (Ajay Devgan) as he captures Baba Zaheer,
the leader of the Al Tahir organisation.
But
six months later during a fierce skirmish at the Indo-Pak border,
four terrorists escape into India.
Once
again, Ranvir takes on the responsibility of finding these men.
In
Mumbai, police commissioner Jaideep (Abhishek Bachchan), is tracking
a gang involved in smuggling fire-arms into the city.
But
instead, he finds information leading to the whereabouts of the
four terrorists whom Ranvir is searching for.
Before
Ranvir and Jaideep can capture the culprits, they manage to hijack
an Indian Airways' aircraft bound for Nepal consisting of 96 passengers
and 11 crew members.
The
plane is forced to land in P.O.K.
What
happens from this point onwards forms the crux of Zameen.
Zameen
scores with regards to its screenplay and execution.
The
film concentrates on the hijack scenario as the police force tries
to find a solution to the problem.
Unlike
other past releases, Zameen does not have comedy scenes or lengthy
love angles to disturb its flow.
Instead,
the film concentrates on the hijacking of the plane which keeps
you engrossed throughout till the climax, which is both captivating
and riveting.
Special
mention goes to the action and dramatic sequences which have been
brilliantly shot using unusual camera angles.
What
makes Zameen different from its counterparts (recently released
Qayamat or The Hero) is that this film shows a real
incident.
The
film is based on the December 1999 hijack of the Indian Airlines
Airbus bound for Kandahar and
the subsequent release of Masoor Azhar, Omar Sheikh and Mushtaq
Zargar, in exchange for the passengers.
Musical
score by Himesh Reshammiya blends in well with the storyline with
the song dillin ki sardi being the best.
Ajay
Devgan does full justice to his role whilst Abhishek Bachchan has
portrayed his subdued character with 茅lan.
On
the whole, Zameen has all the right ingredients for it to
be a winner at the box office.
A certificate
15 might restrict the family orientated fans but word of mouth will
certainly increase its takings at the box office. A must see!
