Raj
Malhotra (Amitabh Bachchan) is happily married to his wife, Pooja
(Hema Malini).
Their
family consists of four sons who now live independent lives with
their respective families.
His
eldest son, Aman Verma is married to Suman and they have a daughter
Rimi Sen.
His
middle sibling, Samir Soni, lives with his wife Divya Dutta and
son Yash Pathak.
The
third son, Sahil Chaddha has recently been married to Arzoo Gowitrikar
whilst his youngest son, Nassir is still a bachelor.
Raj
also has an adopted son, Alok (Salman Khan), who lives in London.
He is going out with Arpita (Mahima Chowdhary).
Raj
always makes a point of having a family gathering throughout the
year during religious festivals and family birthdays.
His
thinking is such, that if he invest his money into his sons' education,
then their lives will be improved.
Because
of this, each of his sons now has a well paid job and a good house.
He
believes that they will return his gesture of good-will by looking
after him and his wife during their retirement.
But
he is shocked to find that none of his sons are prepared to look
after them.
To
add insult to injury, his sons decide on a plan to separate both
their mum and dad.
How
Raj and Pooja overcome this hurdle form the crux of this film.
Baghban
is different from its other Bollywood counterparts in that it shows
how a couple can cope with love during their old age.
Special
mention goes to the scenes involving Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini.
These are not only well directed, but the emotions which come out,
will bring tears to your eyes.
Do
watch out for the sequence when both Raj and Pooja are being humiliated
by their siblings.It
will leave an everlasting impression in your mind well after you
leave the auditorium.
Amitabh
Bachchan鈥檚 performance deserves applause. We get to see the various
shades of Raj鈥檚 character as he goes through the traumatic period
of rejection by his own family. It
will certainly touch your heart.
The
ever so beautiful Hema Malini gives able support to Amitabh especially
during the emotional scenes.
She
makes a grand comeback into Bollywood after more than a decade in
the film industry.
Overall
Baghban 9meaning the gardner) comes out a winner at the box office
due to its high emotional content.
This
is enough to get audiences of all ages into cinemas. But make sure,
you take plenty of tissues with you. You will need it!
