Director Shrey Shrivastav's Insaaf: The Justice, has been inspired by a real life incident which took place in Bihar (India).

An officer's wife was raped by the son of a minister.

The film opens with army officer, Vishwanath Prasad (Sanjay Suri) typing a suicide note and shooting himself.

His suicide leads to an investigation led by police officer Pradhan (Mohan Joshi) and army officer Abhimanyu Singh (Dino Morea).

As Vishwanath's wife, Kunti (Namrata Shirodkar) reveals the reason behind her husband's death, we are taken on a flashback.

Living happily with their young daughter, the couple's life is disrupted when Bunty, a minister's son, rapes Kunti.

Determined to seek justice, Vishwanath tries to get Bunty punished for his terrible deed, but to no avail.

Tired of fighting a losing battle, he commits suicide.

Hearing Kunti's plight, Abhimanyu promises to catch the culprit.

He is helped by journalist Reena, with whom he eventually falls in love - After all, this is a Bollywood film and we need a romantic angle in this tense thriller!

Anyway, as the film progresses, Abhimanyu goes back on his promise, telling Kunti to fight her own battles.

This about-face isn't explained at all, and simply doesn't ring true to this reviewer.

Is it bad editing or was it meant to be part of the story? This is not made clear.

So your guess is as good as mine with regard to the film's climax.

Also, the film lacks originality.

It's yet another Bollywood film where the lead star takes the law into her hands to seek revenge. The whole film is predictable. We know what's going to happen next.

In addition, the rape scene - at about five minutes - goes on way longer than necessary.

A scene a fraction of the length would have provided the necessary impact.

Namrata Shirodkar plays her role with conviction but lacks the range to show the fury of her character required in the climax scenes.

Sanjay Suri has done well as the helpless husband.

Dino Morea supports well whilst Reena 's debut is just average.

Overall, Insaaf does not do full justice to the film. This one will only appeal to Bollywood die hard fans.
