Directors,
Abbas-Mustan who previously made box office hits like Khiladi,
Baazigar, Daraar, Ajnabee and Humraaz,
make their appearance once again with a thoroughly entertaining subject.
Audiences
have already witnessed movies based on cars as central characters
in Hollywood.
But in Bollywood, the theme of Taarzan - The Wonder Car is
unique because the car has never been used as the focal point.
The
director has portrayed the car as having emotions similar to human
beings. The film is a thriller where the revenge seeker is not a
man but a car.
We
can accept the fact that a car behaves like a human but to learn
that it has a soul is just absurd.
The
story unzips with Raj (Vatsal Sheth), the son of Devesh (Ajay Devgan),
a car designer. Devesh designs a sophisticated car, much ahead of
its time.
To
launch it, he attends a meeting with a car manufacturer. But the
four partners (Pankaj Dheer, Sadashiv Amarpurkar, Shakti Kapoor
and Mukesh Tiwari) disagree with him on certain issues.
Soon
they use their devious schemes to reproduce Devesh's invention.
When Devesh gets to know about this, he threatens to take the car
company to court.
Sensing
danger, the four culprits decide to kill him. They throw his body
in the water along with his car giving the impression that he died
in an accident.
The
film then focuses on Devesh's son, Raj. He now works in a garage
owned by Kartar Singh (Amrish Puri).
In
a junkyard, Raj finds his father's car and passionately decides
to transform it into an sophisticated machine which can think for
itself.
The
story takes an interesting turn by focusing on this wonder car,
which starts its revenge spree. It starts killing the evil partners
one by one.
The
script of this film is indeed new for Hindi cinema. Some scenes
are unbelievable, especially the one where the car repairs itself
and fights like a man.
It's
difficult for the audience to digest these sequences because they
appear fake.
Having
said this, directors Abbas and Mustan have handled the direction
with brilliance.
Some
sequences have been superbly portrayed such as the underwater scene
towards the end and the emotional sequence between Devesh and his
family members. Sure to bring tears to your eyes.
Cinematography
is of the highest standard and deserves distinction marks.
Himesh
Reshammiya emerges with his trademark soft-romantic music, which
soothes the ears. "O Sajan" and the "Title track"
are the main highlights of the album.
Debutante
Vatsal Sheth does wonderfully well with acting and dancing but he
looks much too thin, he surely needs to gain some muscle like all
of today's Bollywood heroes.
Gorgeous
Ayesha Takia does not have a meaty role to play but displays herself
as a confident actress.
Ajay
Devgan in a brief role impresses. Amrish Puri as usual acts brilliantly.
Farida Jalal delivers a good performance.
Gulshan
Grover is okay. Amongst the villains, Shakti Kapoor fails to register
an impact whereas the others justify their characters well.
On
the whole, Tarzan - The Wonder Car is a stylishly and creatively
executed enterprise, which will have you glued to your seat till
the end. A great entertainer overall.
