The
turbulent 1930s India form the backdrop for this love story when the
nationalists urged the British to give India its Independence.

During
that time, a young Indian, Kisna (Vivek Oberoi) shields a British
girl by the name of Catherine (Antonia Bernath), from an enraged
mob of nationalists.
Catherine
happens to be the young daughter of a ruthless British tax collector.
Kisna
decides to escort Catherine to the safety of the British High
Commission in New Delhi, who will arrange for her to board a ship
on it's way to Britain.
During
the journey, their friendship turns to love adding complications
to Kisna's private life. He is all about to have an arranged marriage
to Laxmi (Isha Shravani).

The
Hindi version is supposed to be 3 hrs long whilst the English print
will be shortened to 2 hrs to accomodate for the Western audience.
Whilst
Vivek Oberoi plays the lead role of Kisna, the film introduces
two new female leads to Bollywood.
These
include Isha Sharvani who is already a renowned dancer from Kerala
and Antonia Bernath from London.
The
film also includes other popular British actors like Michael Maloney,
Caroline Lingruish and veteran actress Polly Adams.
Stars
from the Bollywood film industry will include Hrishita Bhatt, Amrish
Puri, Om Puri, Yash Pal Sharma, Shivaji Sattam, Zarina Wahab and
Rajat Kapoor.
UK
film enthusiasts would be pleased to learn that British actress,
Antonia Bernath was studying drama at Bristol's Old Vic Theatre
School founded by legendary actor Sir Laurence Olivier in 1946.

She
had to cut her studies short when she got the part in Kisna.
Antonia
has already worked on the television series Holby City and
The Afternoon Play.
The
lyrics for this Kisna is written by Javed Akhtar whilst the
musical score has been composed by A. R. Rahman and Ismail Darbar.
Kisna,
which is directed by Subhash Ghai of the Pardes and Taal
fame, has cost an amazing $5.48million in the making. The film is
said to be Ghai's most ambitious project to date.
The
film has been shot on sync sound (no dubbing by the stars after
the filming) by Dilip Subramaniam whilst choreography has been managed
by Saroj Khan.
Kisna
is expected to release in the UK cinemas 21st January 2005.
