| This
melodrama opens with a flashback sequence as Karan Thapar (Bobby Deol)
receives an award for the outstanding businessman of the year. He
remembers his childhood friend Raj (Akshay Kumar).
These
two characters first met when Raj saves Karan's life in an accident.
After that, they became close friends.
As
they grow older, Raj falls in love with Anjali (Kareena Kapoor)
while Karan's heart flutters for Kajal (Lara Dutta).
But
just at that point in time, an incident happens which drives them
apart. This is where Dosti (meaning friendship) brings back
memories of Karan Johar's Kal Ho Naa Ho.
The
first half is full of fun as all four friends become more familiar
with each other, while the second half is full of melodrama.
Some scenes are so well-executed by director Suneel Darshan that
it will take you by surprise giving you a feeling of, "Oh!
I never expected this to happen" .
But
having said this, some of the film's scenes do go over the top.
For example, Bobby Deol's loud outburst when he talks to God. Fortunately
such scenes are few and far between giving the film a much needed
lift.
Nadeem-Shravan's
musical score is also one of the highlights of the film, with songs
like Dulhaniya and Aisa Koi Zindagi Mein Aaye being
the best of the lot.
Akshay
Kumar is the star of Dosti. Unlike his acting in Garam
Masala, this time round he plays a more subdued character. His
performance is equally matched by Bobby Deol who was last seen in
Barsaat.
Both
Kareena and Lara look glamorous throughout despite the fact that
the script gives them few chances to showcase their talents.
On
the whole, Dosti is a wholesome entertainer appealing to
all ages. With an excellent musical score, great emotional sequences
and melodrama, Dosti has already made its mark in the UK
top ten by reaching number 5.
