This
romantic story is based on Aditya (Akshay Kumar), a simple guy who works as an
engineer and test driver for a car manufacturing firm. There
is also Jia (Katrina Kaif), a rich girl who lives a lonely existence. Both these
characters are already engaged to someone else. For
various reasons described in the film, they both bump into each other whilst on
a short trip to Canada. This happens more than once during which time they become
friends and love slowly grows between the two.
Jia
has no problem mixing with Aditya's warm hearted family but we do
get to learn about her sordid past. This includes how her father
used to beat her mum who later died of depression.
But
just when things were going their way, a slight misunderstanding causes them to
part ways. So will they ever see each other again?
And
what about their respective fianc茅es? Do they get to know
about their partner's short Canadian fling? Humko Deewana Kar
Gaye reveals all in just under three hours!
Whilst
the first half concentrates on light entertainment, the post-intermission
deals with all the tear jerking sequences typical of director Raj
Kanwar.
The film's major plus point is the casting of Akshay and Katrina. They fit
their roles perfectly making their 'love affair' on screen very realistic. You
also feel for the characters and that's a sign of a good director behind the helm.
It
is also refreshing to see Akshay in a romantic subdued kind of a
role as compared to all the comedies he has done of late such as
Garam Masala.
Katrina
on the other hand looks beautiful and performs well. Bipasha Basu, as Akshay's
fianc茅e plays her part of a career minded woman very well considering she
only has a brief role. Cinematography
is brilliant whilst the musical score is already making waves all over with chart
busting numbers. Overall,
Humko Deewana Kar Gaye is your typical Bollywood masala with all the ingredients
to make you laugh and cry. But most important of all, you come out of the auditorium
feeling satisfied! So
no wonder the film grossed a staggering 拢219,981 during its Easter weekend
release. Reviewed
