This
latest Karan Johar offering focuses on two different families who come together
due to life's circumstances. Dev
Saran (Shah Rukh Khan) is married to Rhea (Preity Zinta). They have a volatile
relationship. Dev strongly resents his wife's career minded attitude and this
makes him bitter. Then
we have the other couple - Maya (Rani Mukherji) and Rishi Talwar (Abhishek). Their
relationship is plagued with doubts about their love for each other. This causes
them to become alienated from one another. But
one day, Dev and Maya come across each other and this sparks of a series of emotions
affecting everyone all round. The
first half of the film is composed of lighter moments provided by veteran star
Amitabh Bachchan. But
it is the second half of the movie that really hits you hard as we witness the
collapse of couples' relationships. Kabhi
Alivda Naa Kehna is full of well directed sequences which will remain etched
in your mind long after the movie has finished. It
moves you deeply and that is a sign of a well crafted product by the master storyteller-
Karan Johar. Karan's
forte has always been the execution of a film's climax. Once again he excels in
the final reel as he brings out another twist just when we thought the couples
have decided to go their separate ways. To
date this is Karan's finest work without a doubt both in the direction and technical
departments. Anil
Mehta's cinematography captures New York brilliantly. Musical
score by the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy elevates the film to a higher level of refinement. Kabhi
Alvida Naa Kehna (meaning never say goodbye) once again belongs to Shah Rukh
Khan as far as the acting department is concerned. If you thought Veer Zaara was
his best work to date, then watch his performance here. You will be amazed! Rani
Mukerjee once again takes the trophy as Bollywood's best actress. If she did well
in the film, Black, here she goes one step further as her talent exudes
infinitely. Abhishek
Bachchan too has given a superb performance. Watch out for the scene where he
gives advice to Rani Mukerjee. Simply brilliant! Preity
Zinta too gives her best. Watching her in the scene where she confronts Rani during
the wedding reception makes you realise how excellent she is as an actress. Do
watch out for the two special appearances by Kajol and John Abraham in the song
sequences. This adds extra boost to the film.
On the whole, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is a film that will touch your heart
the Karan Johar style. It has all the making of a mega box office hit.
No
doubt it will be in the UK top ten with flying colours. It's a film which will
put Bollywood on an international platform. Reviewed
