The
film sees the home coming of Ranjit Singh, an army soldier, declared
missing in action whilst crossing the border by mistake. Tortured
as a prisoner, Ranjit looses his memory.

Upon
his return, he is greeted by his wife Pammi (Tabu) and his sister
Simran (Mahima Choudhary).
Shocked
by his condition, they take him to hospital for a medical examination.
Whilst
recuperating, he suffers from recurring nightmares on the horrific
atrocities of the war. He sees a face which he cannot identify.
Meanwhile,
his family do all they can to help Ranjit regain his memory but
to no avail. A disappointed Pammi gives up hope.

But
Simran promises to do everything she can, to get her brother back
to normal.
She
is helped by Ravi (Chandrachur Singh), her fianc茅.
Simran's
effort finally pays off when Ranjit recovers from his illness.
He
finally gets a chance to identify the face which has been tormenting
him in his sleep.
While
Ranjit tries to overcome his nightmares, Pammi tries to make up
for loss time with her husband.
Meanwhile,
Simran is caught in the emotional dilemma between helping her brother
in finding the man behind the face and her commitment to Ravi whom
she has just got engaged to.

Sanjay
Dutt plays a Sikh character for the first time in his acting career.
As
Ranjit Singh, he has many roles to abide to.
As
a soldier he wants revenge for his days in captivity, as the husband,
he longs to be with his wife.
And
as a brother, he acts as a father figure to his dear sister.
How
the personal dilemmas for all these characters get solved, form
the crux for this drama due for a release soon.
