| Two
small time crooks, Johnny (Sanjay) and Jimmy (Saif) dream of becoming rich but
frequently end up in jail due to their misdeeds. Soon,
Balram (Shakti), a hotel manager embezzles his company of 拢30million. The
crooks get wind of the news and decide to blackmail him. But
their plans go haywire when a terrible mobster trio kills the manager. In
order to get to the loot and nab the real killers, the crooks decide to masquerade
the manager's dead body by pretending he is still alive, leading to many mishaps
and comedic moments. No
Bollywood musical is complete without a love angle which is ably provided by Pooja
(Bipasha) the hotel manager and her close associate (Kim Sharma). The
storyline seems to be lifted directly from the comedy flicks of the 90's with
nothing novel to offer it's audience. Director
Ajay Chandok fails to realise that times have changed and his film is no competition
with recent feel good comedies like Munnabhai and Lage Raho. Audiences
have become much wiser, demanding more than the average masala pot boiler consisting
of over used subplots and predictable climax scenes. This
film relies heavily on Sanjay Dutt to bring in the laughs but these are few and
far between. His
sidekick, Saif Ali Khan, appears too uneasy on screen at most times giving the
impression that comedy is not his forte. On
the contrary, Saif has given excellent rib tickling performances in films like
Hum Saath Saath Hai (1999), Dil Chahta Hai (2001),) and Hum Tum
(2004). As
for the female artists, Bipasha and Kim, they have no substantial part to play
except to satisfy the glamour quotient of the song and dance sequences. Overall,
Nehlle Pe Dehlla is an avoidable fare at the UK box office only appealing
to a minority of movie goers.
