New
York music industry forms the backdrop where AJ (Bobby), a composer and singer,
is the current chart topper after giving five consecutive hits. Then,
there is Reggie (Upen), an extremely talented upcoming singer, who is finding
it difficult to get that elusive break.
So, to reach the top fast, he has an affair with Sheena (Celina), AJ's PR personnel.
But
soon he gets attracted to Ruhi (Kangana) whom AJ is in love with. Seeing his own
world crumbling in front of him, an extremely jealous AJ, ably aided by Sheena,
stoop to their lowest to ruin Reggie's musical career. What
follows next, is a fast paced drama full of betrayal, deceit and conspiracy between
an established singer and a talented newcomer. Unlike
his previous Bollywood style movies, director Suneel Darshan tackles this modern
day drama with stunning, eye catching locations with elan. But
one cannot fail to notice that Darshan gets his inspiration from Milo職 Forman's
flick, Amadeus (1984), becoming more evident in the latter part of the movie.
Being
a musical, the songs 'Thade Vaste', 'Namumkin' and title track are cleverly choreographed
in the eye catching locales of South Africa. Bobby
Deol and Upen Patel do full justice to their roles but it is Upen who grabs your
attention. Still
a Bollywood newcomer, he effectively portrays the talent, passion, attitude of
Reggie's character in the film. As
for Bobby, he is in a league of his own as the ruthless, manipulative and cut
throat AJ. A true professional! Celina
and Kangna not only look stunningly beautiful but also give able support to the
two stars.
On the whole, Shakalaka Boom Boom is a fast paced entertainer with all the ingredients
typically Darshan style.
