The
IIFA awards, Bollywood's answer to the Oscars, are returning
to Britain for the first time since 2000, bringing the best
of Bollywood glamour and glitz to Yorkshire and the north
of Britain.
British
stars attending this event include Sienna Miller, Keira Knightley,
Colin Firth, Monty Panesar and Emma Thompson.

Bollywood
celebrities who have confirmed their attendance include UK's
Big Brother winner, Shilpa Shetty, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah
Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai.
Shilpa
Shetty will be performing at this year's IIFA Awards and will
also be inaugurating the IIFA Celebrity Cricket Match with
IIFA Brand Ambassador and screen legend Amitabh Bachchan (of
the Cheeni Kum fame).
The
IIFA Weekend will include a high profile global business forum,
a celebrity charity cricket match, world premieres of Indian
films, a film festival and the spectacular IIFA Awards ceremony.
The
events of the IIFA Weekend are expected to boost tourism in
the host region Yorkshire by more than 拢9.5m attracting
over 30,000 extra visitors from all over the world.
More
than 500 luminaries from the Indian film industry are expected
to travel to the region for this spectacular event along with
some of the world's best known international celebrities.
The
IIFA event will be broadcast globally by Asian satellite channels
reaching nearly 500 million viewers in 110 countries.
Day
one on Thursday 7 June 2007 will see the prestigious IIFA
World Premiere at Cineworld Castleford which will give Bollywood
fans a first glance at forthcoming blockbusters from Indian
Cinema.
A BAFTA-IIFA workshop will be held on Friday 8 June 2007 at
National Media Museum in Bradford. focusing on the work of
the legendary Indian filmmaker, Satyajit Ray.
It
will also give practitioners and amateurs alike, an opportunity
to interact with icons of the film industry and come together
to discuss international cinema.
The
event will be chaired by actress Jaya Bachchan along with
panellists including celebrated Bengali film maker Rituparno
Ghosh.
As
part of its objective to give international audiences a flavour
of India Cinema, an IIFA Film Festival at Cineworld, Bradford
will take place on the same day.
This
festival presents a variety of movies that have received popular
and critical acclaim across the world showcasing a wide range
of Indian Cinema to audiences.
A
tribute will also be paid to an Indian film superstar and
a retrospective on the late Hrishikesh Mukherjee, one of the
most popular filmmakers will be presented.
No
IIFA celebration is complete with a celebrity cricket match
which will take place at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.
The
team will combine Asia's cricketing greats with stars from
the Indian film fraternity, playing against a UK celebrity
cricket team.
Applauded
by cricket fans and cinema alike, proceeds from the match
will be donated to the IIFA Foundation.
The
world renowned Dickie Bird will make a welcomed comeback to
showcase his unrivalled umpire skills.
Acting
legend and IIFA Brand Ambassador, Amitabh Bachchan, will inaugurate
the match before being joined by celluloid stud and starlet,
Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty to commence proceedings with
the toss up.
On
Saturday 9 June 2007 we will find out whose star shines the
brightest on this biggest film industry.
The
IIFA Awards 2007 will be held in one of Europe's top event
destinations, the Hallam fm Arena in Sheffield.
Performances
by dazzling stars of Indian cinema will include current heartthrob
Abhishek Bachchan and UK's Big Brother winner, Shilpa Shetty.
The
extravagant Awards night will be hosted by the vivacious and
ex-Miss Universe Lara Dutta and comedy kingpins of Indian
cinema, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani.
It
will be yet another event to be remembered in the history
of Indian cinema seeing Yorkshire as the host for this prestigious
event.
