Set
in the sixteenth century, Emperor Akbar's success knew no bounds.
After having secured the Hindu Kush, he furthered his realm by conquest.
As
a result, his empire extended from Afghanistan to the Bay of Bengal,
and from the Himalayas to the Godhavari River.
Through
a shrewd blend of tolerance, generosity and force, Akbar won the
allegiance of the Rajputs, the most belligerent Hindus.
But
little did Akbar know that when he married Jodhaa, a fiery Rajput
princess, in order to strengthen his relations with the Rajputs,
he would in turn be embarking upon a new journey - the journey of
true love.

The
daughter of King Bharmal of Amer, Jodhaa resented the fact that
she was being reduced to a mere political pawn in this marriage
of alliance.
Akbar's
biggest challenge now lies in winning the love of Jodhaa - a love
hidden deep below resentment and extreme prejudice.
Jodhaa
Akbar is their untold love story being directed and produced by
Ashutosh Gowariker, the director of Oscar-nominated Lagaan.
In
order to keep the story close to the actual historic events, Ashutosh
Gowariker hired a team of historians and scholars from New Delhi,
Lucknow, Agra and Jaipur to guide him with the screenplay.
It
stars Hrithik Roshan (Krrish -2006) and Aishwarya Rai (Umrao Jaan
-2007) in lead roles.
Whilst
Aishwarya Rai is no stranger to costume dramas (Devdas, Umrao Jaan
and Guru), Jodhaa Akbar will be Hrithik Roshan 's first period film.
A major
part of the movie has been filmed in Rajasthan whilst the rest of
the filming will be completed at N.D. Studios in Karjat
The
musical score has been composed by A. R. Rahman (Guru-2007). This
historic and colourful epic is scheduled for February 2008 release
by UTV Motion Pictures.
