How could that building on the right with the clock be demolished to erect the egg box?! A similar hatred (as that of the egg box) of some of the new buildings Sheffield is erecting will no doubt surface within 10 years time. Why must the Sheffield planning department be so short sighted?

Your caption on Barkers Pool says that The Beatles played The Gaumont in 1965, in fact it was the City Hall over the road, where I also saw the Rolling Stones in their early days and the Yardbirds featuring Eric Clapton. My wife & I recently stayed in the Victoria Station Hotel which has been mostly derelict during my lifetime and is now a very nice place to stay, restored very much to (most of) it's former glory.

Photo number 10, what was once one of the best pubs in Sheffield, now a Q park car park.

I was among the crowd in Barkers Pool when the Beatles played in Sheffield. It coincided with the University Rag Day on a Saturday at the beginning of November 1964, and the concert was in the City Hall. It took months to completely remove the lipstick inscriptions from the walls of the City Hall.
