Queens Park Rangers and Real Madrid have agreed a deal that could see ex-Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho move to Loftus Road on a season-long loan.

The 34-year-old former Portugal defender has yet to agree personal terms but talks will take place over the next 48 hours.

On Tuesday, QPR and Spurs agreed a fee of 拢7.5m for defender Michael Dawson.

Manager Mark Hughes has moved to strengthen his defence after a 5-0 home defeat by Swansea on Saturday.

Neither deal has been confirmed but privately QPR hope both players will be signed before Saturday's trip to Norwich.

The transfer of Dawson, 28, is closer to completion, although he has yet to undergo a medical or sign off on the terms of his proposed contract.

The England defender had been told he would be not be a first-choice centre back at Spurs this season. The proposed deal could eventually be worth up to 拢9m.

Nottingham Forest will be due 10% of the fee from a sell-on clause inserted

Carvalho made his name at QPR's west London rivals Chelsea, forming the bedrock of the defence, alongside John Terry, that won successive Premier League titles under Jose Mourinho in 2005 and 2006.

If a deal goes through he could be reunited with former team-mate Jose Bosingwa at Loftus Road with Chelsea and QPR scheduled to play each other at Loftus Road on 15 September.

Sebastien Bassong, Dawson's former Tottenham team-mate, left Spurs earlier on Tuesday after agreeing a three-year deal with Norwich City.
