Torquay United manager Paul Wotton says his side were "terrific" as they hammered Chippenham Town 3-0 in the National League South.

Goals from Lirak Hasani, Ed Palmer and Daniel Hayfield put the Gulls well out of sight before the half-time break.

The result lifts Torquay up to second in the table and marks their fifth win in the opening seven games.

Wotton told 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Devon: "We were terrific tonight, it doesn't get much better than 3-0 at home."

Following Saturday's frustrating draw against Aveley, Wotton said he and his coaching staff spent a long time analysing the game.

"We looked at the Aveley game, found what we needed to do better and we just asked the boys to do that, and they started on the front foot."

Two headers inside the first 10 minutes from Hasani and Palmer saw the Gulls fly out of the traps - a total contrast.

"I thought we started really well, on the front foot and our intensity was high."

He added: "Chippenham are brave with how they play and have good technical players so it was up to us to set the tempo for the game."

After 26 minutes, midfielder Hayfield fired his shot beyond the opposition goalkeeper, and Wotton's side were already home and dry.

"It's a lovely half-time score, we had to change our tactics slightly at half-time because Chippenham changed their shape.

"The biggest credit I can give the boys is that even though our forward play was great and we were 3-0 up, during the second half I saw a desire to get bodies sprinting back [to defend].

"That's nothing to do with me, it's the players and that's great."

Wotton's side travel to 18th placed Welling on Saturday.
