Dan Evans beats Juan Ignacio Londero at Adelaide International to reach second round

Dan Evans will be seeded 30 at the Australian Open in Melbourne - the first time the British number one has earned a seeding at a Grand Slam

British number one Dan Evans needed just 85 minutes to beat Juan Ignacio Londero 6-2 6-4 and reach the second round of the Adelaide International.

Evans broke the Argentine four times in a comfortable victory and faces Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik next.

Meanwhile, British women's number two Heather Watson battled back to beat Jil Teichmann at the Hobart International.

The 27-year-old won 1-6 6-4 6-4 against the Swiss world number 67 and will face Fiona Ferro in the last 16.

Evans will be hopeful of maintaining his impressive recent form at the Adelaide tournament, where Canada's 19-year-old world number 21 Felix Auger-Aliassime is now the highest ranked player.

The draw has opened up for the Briton following the withdrawals of the top two seeds Novak Djokovic and Alex de Minaur.

Djokovic pulled out after helping Serbia beat Davis Cup champions Spain in the final of the inaugural ATP Cup on Sunday, while Alex de Minaur has a rib injury.

Evans, 29, was a key member of Great Britain's squad in their run to the ATP Cup quarter-finals in Sydney, claiming important wins against Belgium's David Goffin and Australia's De Minaur.

The , who has earned his first Grand Slam seeding at this month's Australian Open in Melbourne, is in Auger-Aliassime's half of the draw but would not meet him until the semi-finals.

Elsewhere, Evans' ATP Cup team-mate Cameron Norrie lost 7-6 6-2 to Brazilian qualifier Thiago Monteiro in the second round of the ASB Classic in Auckland.
