Bell Ringing in Alton

An a-pealing hobby with pulling power! How a village in the Staffordshire Moorlands is keeping up an ancient tradition of bell ringing...

So, at Alton village in the Staffordshire Moorlands, volunteers and enthusiasts from the community attend St Peter's Church every Monday evening to learn and continue the ancient tradition.

Alan Walters is the church's Tower Captain - he leads the other bell-ringers in their efforts. And he comes from a proud bell-ringing tradition.

But as our reporter Tim Parker has found out, it's not always a hobby that's easy to pass down!
