The results of the 麻豆官网首页入口 micro:bit playground survey are here!

Across the country, students measured the area of their playground, how active they were within it, what biodiversity it supported and the different temperatures around it, all whilst building their digital literacy skills. As well as learning about coding and computing, students could get to know their playground in a completely different way and become the data scientists of their school.

But the journey isn鈥檛 over yet because of course, data scientists don鈥檛 just collect data, they need to analyse it as well!

We鈥檝e created this interactive quiz for teachers to use with their students to help them interpret, understand and discuss the results as a class.

How is their school different to others? Are they surprised by any of the findings? Has it made them think differently about their playground?

How do data scientists analyse data?

When data scientists try to answer big questions about our world, they need to collect as much data as possible. They then calculate an average of all this data to give them the most accurate answer to their question. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) have done just that with the playground survey 鈥 they've collected all the results from all the schools and have worked out the averages for each playground characteristic that was measured.

Take the quiz to find out what they discovered!

Congratulations on completing the quiz and for taking part in the micro:bit playground survey!

What did your class think of the results? Some potential topics to discuss together could be:

  • How could playgrounds be made more nature friendly?
  • Why do you think there is such a range in playground size across the country?
  • How could you make sure your class stays active during break times, even in bad weather?
  • Why do you think it鈥檚 important to be active during break times?
  • How do you think playgrounds should be designed in the future?

Even though the playground survey is over for now, the data science journey doesn鈥檛 end here. All the resources, and more, are still available on the 麻豆官网首页入口 micro:bit website for you to continue the learning.
