General Dwight D Eisenhower (1890 - 1969) was the Supreme Commander of Allied forces during the campaign following D-Day. Following the war he went on to become President of the United States of America, serving two terms between 1953 - 1961.

Here he broadcasts to the people of Western Europe in a statement prepared for D-Day. For many of those people of Western Europe a difficult struggle still remained鈥
