Hello鈥hat鈥檚 my feet you can hear鈥hat鈥檚 me walking down a dusty road. My feet sound like that because I鈥檓 a donkey; a little grey donkey. I live in a village called Chandelao in India.

Every day I carry heavy things on my back from the fields to my master鈥檚 house in the village. Carrying heavy things is my job. Today I鈥檓 carrying two very big sacks of potatoes.

When I walk from the fields to the village I pass other animals. I always stop and say hello.

Look鈥ere comes an elephant.

鈥楬ello, Mr Elephant. How are you today?鈥

Elephants are too big to notice little grey donkeys like me. Nobody talks to a donkey. Oh well, never mind. On I go, carrying my sacks of potatoes.

Now who鈥檚 this climbing up a banana tree? It鈥檚 a monkey. He鈥檚 stealing bananas from someone鈥檚 garden!

鈥楬ello Mr Monkey. How are you today?鈥

He just fills his mouth with bananas and runs away. Monkeys are far too busy to notice little grey donkeys like me. Nobody talks to a donkey. Oh well never mind. On I go, carrying my sacks of potatoes.

Now, who鈥檚 this slowly walking out of the desert?

It鈥檚 a camel. I don鈥檛 like camels very much. They鈥檙e quite rude and sometimes they spit but I am a friendly donkey so I say鈥

鈥楬ello Mr Camel. How are you today?鈥

The camel looks at me, curls his lip and carries on walking. He鈥檚 too rude to talk to little grey donkeys like me. Nobody talks to a donkey. Oh well never mind. On I go, carrying my sacks of potatoes.

Now I鈥檓 back in my village and look who鈥檚 standing in the street. It鈥檚 a cow. Children are patting it and feeding it cabbage leaves and clumps of grass.

鈥楬ello, Mrs Cow. How are you today?鈥

She鈥檚 having far too much fun being patted and eating to talk to little grey donkeys like me. Nobody talks to a donkey. Oh well never mind. On I go, carrying my sacks of potatoes.

On my way into the village I say hello to a goat, three chickens, a mongoose and a tiny mouse. None of them talk to me. Not even the mouse. Nobody talks to a donkey.

I鈥檓 nearly at my master鈥檚 house now. Sitting on a wall is a little girl. She鈥檚 eating an apple. As I walk by something amazing happens鈥

The little girl says: 鈥楬ello, Mr Donkey. How are you today?'

I look at the little girl. I鈥檓 just a little grey donkey. Is she really talking to me?

鈥楧o you want an apple?鈥 says the girl.

The little girl has a whole bag of apples. She gives one to me and starts to talk. The little girl is good at talking. She tells me things that have happened today at school. The girl feeds me apples. She talks and talks and I eat and eat until the apple bag is empty鈥

Then鈥 slowly walk down the street to my master鈥檚 house. I don鈥檛 think I鈥檝e ever been so happy!
