Are you being a diva? No diva! [Laughs]
Hi, I'm Torrian and I'm Layla, and we're Milo's parents. Milo is two years old and has oculocutaneous albinism. Milo's albinism affects his hair, skin and eyes, and he is registered as visually impaired.
Hey! Oh, it's Milo!
His speech developed a little bit later, but it just meant that we had to talk more to him and use smaller sentences. Once he kind of understood a word, we'd then start adding words to that, to extend his vocabulary.
Two giraffes. Two giraffes. Baby giraffe, mummy giraffe.Yeah鈥
His speech and language is now at a point where he's equal to or excelling his peers, at the same age group. We were told that it would be heavily delayed. If we hadn't put the work in, I believe that he probably would be.
Where does the triangle go? Right here. Right there. Good job.
Milo, for us, he can't see so we have to be his eyes. We have to talk to him about the world, but it's really important to celebrate those things that he can do, because they're special to him.
An elephant! [Elephant noise] A big trunk! A big trunk!
Music makes our lives easier, because it calms Milo down.Being visually impaired, sometimes he can get very overstimulated, and music can kind of help recenter him, bring him down, calm down the situation.
[Sings] With an oink, oink here and an oink, oink there鈥ere an oink, there an oink. Everywhere an oink, oink.
Milo and dancing is pretty much a daily occurance. Usually if I walk through the front door from work, the first thing he wants on is the radio, followed by some sort of dancing. He shows you doesn't he鈥e does."Dad, look at me!"He shows me his moves.
[Sings] Little monkey clapping on the bed鈥ou clapping? Clap, clap, clap!
Recently, Milo has started to come up and say,"I love you." Now that is a little bit too much to handle most days, to be fair. When you say "oh buddy, I love you more",he goes "no dad, I love you more." That gets me every time. To hear him say those words, and we thought it would be a lot longer before we heard him say these words, it just melts us, doesn't it? It makes us so proud of him.
One, two, three鈥 Swing!
