2000: Section 28 repealed in Scotland

Members of the Scottish Parliament vote to repeal Section 28 on 21 June 2000.

Referred to as Clause 2a in Scotland, the law had been enacted in May 1988 to prohibit local authorities from 鈥減romoting homosexuality by teaching or by publishing material.鈥

It stated that local authorities shall not "promote the teaching in any maintained school of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship."

Section 28 was later repealed in England and Wales in November 2003.
