Crook Family
Last updated: 03 July 2009
In a gradual and very natural way that suits their Pembrokeshire roots, the Crook Family formed in 2006 when vocalist Tim Williams met double bassist Jon Sharpe. To complete the trio, Tim's long lost cousin Sarah Richards joined on piano.
With all three members sharing vocal duties, and after a short period of fine tuning, they released their first album The Crook Family Album, with its contemplative, acoustic structure paired with nocturnal lyrics and thoughtful musing winning over members of the media and public alike.
Following a clutch of live sessions for Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio Wales, The Crook Family embarked on their second album, released in 2009. Partly recorded in west Wales and America, From the West saw Tim and co travel to Providence, Rhode Island to work with acclaimed producer Mason Neely - noted for his work with Cerys Matthews.
This step revealed an added confidence to their pastoral ballads with a fierce punch that echoes Harvest-era Neil Young, as much as it does acclaimed dusty 'Americana' from the likes of Calexico, Sparklehorse and Wilco.
