Wales' advice deserts

Could legal aid lawyers - like NHS dentists - soon become a thing of the past across large parts of Wales?
That's the fear of opponents of the accelerating process of legal aid reform who argue that the introduction of new contracts for both civil and criminal legal aid could make it uneconomical for solicitors to continue as they are.
The result, they claim, will be the development of 'advice deserts' in rural Wales, where people will have to travel much further for legal aid advice, or a trend towards solicitors only taking on easy cases that can be resolved quickly.
Ministers say that won't be allowed to happen and that the changes are needed to make the most of the £2 billion of public money that goes into the legal aid system every year.
With the jury still out, Eye On Wales this week hears the legal arguments from both sides.
