Ebbw Vale's rail revival

After a break of 45 years, passenger trains will soon return to Ebbw Vale. The new £30 million line to Cardiff - with its six stations - is part of a Welsh rail revival in recent years which has seen a rise in both passenger numbers and train punctuality.
The governments at Westminster and Cardiff Bay want to build on those improvements and more investment is in the pipeline for across Wales, with better North South rail links a key priority for the new Welsh Assembly Government.
But rail improvements are expensive and with the Treasury tightening the purse strings of public finances there are concerns that the levels of investment will dip and momentum will be lost.
