Director of Cricket Centre of Excellence tells us how to keep the team together.

'As a team, make a concerted effort to enjoy the game'.

  • Enjoy what you do. When people lose as a team, they need to find the enjoyment again.
  • Make sure the team understand the basics and that they are sound in applying the basics to the game. You get beaten when you don't do the basics well.
  • Minimise your mistakes. Make sure that everyone on the team understands collectively what they have to do.
  • Make people aware of their responsibilities. Help others in the team so that confidence grows then the whole team will benefit.
  • After the game, talk through what you have done well and what you haven't done well this helps you to eliminate faults.
  • The biggest thing is to understand and accept when things go wrong. Don't make excuses and pretend. Realise that it's down to you as an individual and as part of a team to put your hands up.
  • When you do have a good day, don't get carried away. Equally, when it doesn't go well, don't get too down. Have a balance.
