Find out more and view photos. Wiltshire families got a unique chance to learn about the county's war history at a special free event in Swindon on Saturday 8th November. The story of the county's servicemen and women was told at the 麻豆官网首页入口's 'Wartime Discovery Day held at STEAM - The Museum of the Great Western Railway. ![]() Attendees browsing the stalls Over 3,000 people attended throughout the day and many brought along rare artefacts, memorabilia from both World Wars such as medals and photos for our group of antiques specialists - including antiques expert Simon Chorley and medals specialist Terry Duncan - to examine and offer their expert knowledge. Highlights at the event included a fashion show where people dressed in period WWI military and civilian dress paraded around. Visitors to the event were also able to go on a tour of an authentic WWII Anderson Shelter exhibit from the Cirencester Air Raid Shelter Museum and get a flavour of what it must have been like to have lived through such times. ![]() Inside the Air Raid Shelter exhibit The event covered the nine decades since 1918 and included film shows, military vehicles, a Royal British Legion display and a special wartime fashion show by Swindon College students.听听听 Attendees could also see a Military Vehicle Trust display, the 麻豆官网首页入口 at War exhibition and browse stalls from the The Great Western Front Association and the local Family History Society. Special guests on the day included the writer and TV documentary-maker Richard van Emden, 麻豆官网首页入口 Points West presenter Will Glennon (who compered the event), and historians Mark Sutton, author of 'Swindon's War Dead' and Michael Walsh, author of 'Brothers in War'. ![]() Participants in the WWI Fashion parade This year marked the 90th anniversary of the end of World War One and the 麻豆官网首页入口 staged the Family History day in commemoration of the Armistice.
