Well Met in Antarctica

Amundsen, Scott and Shackleton are famous names from the epic age of polar exploration early last century.

Another name is less well known.

Swedish geologist Otto ±·´Ç°ù»å±ð²Ô²õ°ìÂáö±ô»å set off in 1901 with the intention of spending the Antarctic winter on the ice.

In the event it became a much longer tale of hardship and remarkable coincidence.

In this episode of Discovery, Gabrielle Walker travels to the locations in Antarctica where the story unfolded, visits the historic sites, still perfectly preserved in the frozen landscape, and hears the story in ±·´Ç°ù»å±ð²Ô²õ°ìÂáö±ô»å?s own words, recorded in his diary.
