In 1922, the tomb of Tutankhamun was discovered by the archaeologist Howard Carter. It had been undisturbed for over 3,000 years and contained very important evidence about how pharaohs lived and died. Never before had the tomb of a pharaoh and all his treasures been discovered.
A visit today to the tomb in the Valley of the Kings provides evidence and clues about life in the times of the Ancient Egyptians. The colourful wall paintings depict some of the gods. The beetle or scarab represents the Egyptian god Khepri.

Students could write a diary entry from the perspective of Howard Carter on the day he discovered Tutankhamun鈥檚 tomb. How would he feel? Students could sequence the events leading to the discovery. What major discoveries are scientists hoping to make in Egypt today?
