Pick your classic Belgian Grand Prix

Post categories:

Andrew Benson | 14:22 UK time, Thursday, 20 August 2009

Formula 1 returns from its summer break this weekend to start a busy climax to the season. That means this blog asking for your views on the next event in our classic races series comes before the race preceding it - Sunday's European race in Valencia - rather than after it.

While attention is focused on the matters of Valencia - whether , McLaren's return to form, Ferrari's decision to pick Luca Badoer as a replacement for the injured Felipe Massa, and so on - hopefully you will find some time to consider which great Belgian Grand Prix you would like to see again.

As ever, we will use your views to inform our decision of which event to highlight on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Sport F1 website in the run-up to the race at , which is just a week after Valencia on 30 August.

Short-ish highlights clips (between five and nine minutes long) will be shown for all the races. But if the selected event dates from the years when the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú had the rights to F1 (ie, before 1997) we will also broadcast the full Grand Prix highlights programme of the time.

Spa is almost everyone's favourite circuit - a dramatic roller-coaster ride through the verdant - and its extensive history means there have been some absolutely stonking races there.

For this selection we have focused on the last quarter of a century, even though the track's history can be traced right back to the 1920s.

Nor have we included any races from the era when Spa lost the race and it passed through the unloved Nivelles and Zolder race tracks. Perhaps next year we will try to delve a little deeper into the past, although as we have discovered at other historic events this season the archive is not what one might wish for from some of those years.

Our selection starts with 1985 with what I believe was a race uniquely rescheduled from its original May date to what has become the now-traditional early autumn date for the Belgian GP.

Michael Schumacher wins the 1992 Belgian Grand Prix for Benetton

Spa was resurfaced shortly before the original date of the , and when the weather on the original weekend in May was unseasonably hot, the asphalt broke up badly - so badly, in fact, that it was impossible to hold a race on it.

When the teams reconvened at Spa in September, was within touching distance of the first of his four world titles. Although the Frenchman was on good form that weekend, his cautious approach - he had already missed out on three world titles in agonising circumstances - contributed to the fact that he did not win a fascinating race in the wet-dry conditions seen so often at Spa over the years. Instead, victory went to Ayrton Senna, who was then coming to the end of his first season in a top team.

Senna's had been a season marked by blistering speed - he seemed to be on pole virtually everywhere - but equally poor reliability.

That weekend in Spa, though, his Lotus-Renault held together, and in a fascinating race the Brazilian was imperious in conditions that already he was making his own.

Our next choice is , another race in mixed conditions and another win for a rapidly rising star, this one going by the name of Michael Schumacher.

This was the German's first grand prix victory and it came exactly a year after he had made a spectacular F1 debut for Jordan. Now at Benetton, who had poached him from Jordan in the two weeks between the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix and the next race in Italy, Schumacher's performances through 1992 had already marked him out as a future superstar.

In another intriguing race, the turning point came shortly before the first pit stops. The field were on wets on a track that was slowly drying, and Schumacher briefly slid off the road. After a brief excursion, he rejoined right behind team-mate Martin Brundle - and Schumacher immediately noticed the Englishman's rear tyres were going off.

Realising a) that this had probably contributed to his 'moment' and b) that it was now time to come in and change to dry tyres, Schumacher did exactly that at the end of that lap. The decision won him the race.

Schumacher features heavily in our next two selections as well. In 1995, he and title rival Damon Hill qualified well down the grid after qualifying was hit by rain. As they set about making their way up through the field, Hill's Williams team-mate David Coulthard ran away with the race in the early laps and seemed certain to take a first victory, only for his car to fail at just after quarter-distance.

Michael Schumacher celebrates victory at Spa in 1995, Damon Hill does not seem quite so pleased with second

Now in contention for victory, Schumacher and Hill staged what was one of many entertaining but bad-tempered on-track battles that year. Hill was incensed by his rival's wheel-banging tactics.

Observers were more impressed by Schumacher's ability to hold off Hill through the fast chicane at Les Combes in damp conditions while the Williams driver was on the racing line using wet tyres and Schumacher on the wetter part of the track on dry-weather slicks.

Schumacher went on to record another in the series of brilliant victories that clinched him a second consecutive world title. He should also have won in , our next choice, but fate conspired against him in an incident-packed race.

The drama started on the opening lap, when in the limited visibility caused by pouring rain, a mass pile-up on the hill down from the involved 13 cars. The race had to be stopped so the track could be cleared.

When it was restarted an hour or so later, Schumacher, now at Ferrari and battling McLaren's Mika Hakkinen for the title, wasted no time in speeding into the lead and building a massive advantage.

Unlike in our first three selections, though, there was no let-up in conditions, and the rain was still pelting down when Schumacher came up to lap Hakkinen's team-mate David Coulthard in terrible visibility halfway through the race.

On the downhill straight to the fifth-gear , Coulthard backed off to let Schumacher by, but caught unawares, the German's car piled into the back of the McLaren, ripping off the Ferrari's right front wheel.

It was an innocent misunderstanding, but Schumacher - perhaps transposing his own morals onto another - smelled foul and immediately jumped to the incorrect conclusion that Coulthard had done it deliberately to help the title challenge of Hakkinen, who had retired early in the race.

Schumacher had not calmed down by the time both men had dragged their terminally damaged cars back to the pits, and he marched stern-faced to the McLaren pit, where the two men had to be pulled apart, in an echo of an incident between Senna and Nigel Mansell in 1987.

The two, in a much calmer frame of mind, discussed the incident in a .

Out on the track, Schumacher's retirement had left the Jordans of Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher running one-two.

The team had had a terrible start to the year, but diligent work had transformed the car and it was now a contender.

Hill had driven superbly in the first half of the race to build a lead over his team-mate and get himself up into second place, but now Ralf was gaining.

Concerned that they would end up losing Jordan's first ever F1 win - and a one-two at that - with two drivers battling in terrible conditions, Hill radioed the team to say they could continue to race if they liked but that it might make more sense to tell them to back off and cruise to the finish.

Eddie Jordan needed no second invitation and issued the order - which did not go down well with either Ralf or his brother.

It meant that Jordan, in the midst of celebrating a breakthrough moment for his team, had to contend with a lecture from a still-angry Michael Schumacher on how he had unfairly stitched up his brother.

Lewis Hamilton races clear of the field in the 2008 Belgian Grand Prix

Our final selection, , also seems certain to go down in
F1 history for its controversial conclusion. For 41 laps, it was a boring Ferrari demonstration, with Kimi Raikkonen seemingly heading to a dominant victory. But rain with three laps to go changed everything.

Now the McLaren of Lewis Hamilton was the fastest car in the race, and the stage was set for a dramatic final couple of laps.

Hamilton won an energetic and brilliantly entertaining battle for the lead with Raikkonen, who then crashed out. But in the course of that fight, Hamilton was adjudged by the stewards to have cut the Bus Stop chicane and not sufficiently handed back his advantage.

The assessment was probably fair but the penalty was another matter - the vast majority of observers disagreed vehemently with the decision to dock Hamilton 25 seconds, demoting him to third, leaving the winner of the race as Felipe Massa, who had driven one of those anonymous races when you barely notice a driver is there.

It is, I hope you will agree, a superb selection of races. Doubtless, though, many readers will have other Belgian Grands Prix they feel should be there instead.

While debating which one of these races you'd like to see, please do tell us which others are your favourites and why, and we will look at including them in this series next season.

All I ask is copious coverage of "that" crash! I think watching 2008 may be a bit sour since it so nearly cost Hamilton the title!

  • Comment number 2.

I'm really tempted to go for 1998, but for the sake of extended highlights my vote goes to 1995.

  • Comment number 3.

I agree with the above comment, 1998 was a great race, but because of the extended highlights I vote 1995

  • Comment number 4.

1995 please, but why the hell have you chosen 08 as a ''classic'' race when you admit yourself that it was a boring race bar the last three laps?

  • Comment number 5.

    1995 obviously.

  • Comment number 6.

    1995 please!

  • Comment number 7.

    Definitely 1995

  • Comment number 8.

1985 it was one of the first Senna vs Mansell batles for the race win and the wet made it even more exciting.

  • Comment number 9.

    '85 please.

  • Comment number 10.

    1995

I think 1998 was the best by a mile but I agree with the above - extended highlights of 1995 please! :)

all about 98! must be! super super hill

  • Comment number 17.

1995. 2008 shouldn't be an option, as other than the last 3 laps or so..........nothing really happened.

95 please, in the event of a tie 92

  • Comment number 22.

Well this is a foregone conclusion even before voting starts its pretty clear everyone will vote for 1998. People please remember you wont get full highlights if you vote 1998. I will vote for 1985 please as it is a rare race and we get full highlights and is one i have not seen (i was very tempted by 1992 though!)

Andrew please can we change the format of voting for next year it is nearly killing me at each GP seeing people choose newer races where we get short highlights over these full highlight classics, thanks.

  • Comment number 23.

I am voting on 1995 sounds like a great race.

Spa is definately my favourite circuit, the 1998 Grand Prix was the best ever in F1, I would absolutely love to see full highlights of that but I know it's not possible. I think the 2008 GP was awesome too especially the last 10 laps.

I'm really looking forward to the following weekend because after Valencia all the tracks are really good.

I enjoyed watching the highlights for the European GPs they were excellent can't wait for the Spa ones.

  • Comment number 24.

    Mad keen for 1995 Andrew.

Last year was quite decent I thought - Hamilton was pressuring all race and Kimi was responding, keeping the cushion. Too bad the stewards p155ed all over the result rendering an otherwise very watchable Grand Prix a complete waste of time. What a shame.

  • Comment number 25.

1998 was one that sticks in the memory; the big accident at the start, Schuey driving into the back of Coulthard and the resultant near punch-up in the pits...

Oh, and Mika Hakkinen's move on Schuey in 2000 was one of the best overtakes in F1 ever. Compared to that, 2008 isn't anywhere near.

...but cos of the highlights, gonna vote for 1995.

  • Comment number 26.

I'll vote for 1992. It was the second race I ever saw (after 92 Monaco) and it was a brilliant race from start to finish. Both Mansell and Patrese made good moves on Senna on the first lap before it rained. Then Senna decided to stay on slicks and drove well but it got too wet even for him. Alesi and Mansell had a battle which resulted in the retirement of Alesi. Then you had Schumacher's off and pitstop which put him into the lead but Nigel was catching him but a misfire meant he had to turn the engine down. By far the best race at Spa.

1995 was not that exciting to be honest. By the time the safety car came out, which if I remember correctly was early on, both Hill and Schumacher were at the front and from then on it was disgusting driving from Schumacher.

1998 was good and had many incidents throughout the race, but 2008 does not deserve its place on this list. It was dull until it rained, and then it was turned on its head. But it was dull.

    1995

  • Comment number 28.

Im gonna go for 1992 because i've seen the 1995 race quite a few times now. (Of the races i've actually seen live on tv, 1998 was mega)

#17: I believe a GP doesn't have to be brilliant from start to finish to become a classic. There is no stringent criteria for a GP to be regarded a classic as far as i'm aware... logically then, the 1979 French GP was not a classic race either because Villeneuve and Arnoux only fought for 3 laps or whatever...(!)

  • Comment number 29.

In an ideal world I'd go for 1998, but this is not an ideal world so it has to be 1995.

  • Comment number 30.

Folks Please make it the 1998 race, Mr Schu was a terrible, bullying driver until he had grown up and matured... then we saw the brilliance of the real driver... seeing the 1995 will just make me grind my teeth....

Apologies to the Michael fans, no point in arguing it is just my opinion :-)

There's no point voting for 1998. We'll be getting 5 minute highlights of that race whichever year wins.

You have to play the system to get extended highlights. Voting for anything other than 85, 92 or 95 is a wasted vote.

  • Comment number 33.

    1998... purely for the first-corner carnage! :-)

  • Comment number 34.

The rest are close but 1998 is the cigar. Huge start crash, loads of spins and retirements, the schumacher/couldthard shunt/pit bust up, a first win for Jordan & Hill's last win. What more could you want??

  • Comment number 35.

Every year I give the same answer. That '98 race. Woo and yay, etc.

But I'm too young to remember the '95 race, but that certainly sounds like quite the race!

  • Comment number 36.

I have to go for the 2008 race because Lewis did win it and FIA are........anyway it is the best race i have ever seen!

  • Comment number 37.

    I vote for 1992. :-)

  • Comment number 38.

How much does Schumi look like Vettel? A sign of things to come maybe?

  • Comment number 39.

I can't believe 2000 isn't in the list?!? Ok, so I'm a bit of a Mika fan - but it's one of the best races I've ever seen (it helps that it's at the best track!)

  • Comment number 40.

'98 out of that bunch please - mad stuff and Damon's last win!

    '98 plse. Jordans finest hour

  • Comment number 44.

1995. Post #26 is completely wrong, the safety car didn't come out until well over halfway through the race and there was still excitement after it as Hill chased down Brundle for 2nd place after suffering a penalty. Voting for 98 or 08 is completely pointless and stupid as we can only see short highlights of them, which we will see regardless of whether they are chosen or not. So don't vote for 98 or 08.

  • Comment number 45.

I can't believe there's even a debate about this. 1998 was probably the greatest F1 race ever. It had everything; crashes, overtaking, controversy, rain and a British winner to boot. I was there, and to paraphrase Andie MacDowell, I didn't even notice it was raining.

  • Comment number 46.

I'm going to go for 1985. I've never seen the race or any part of it.

Thanks for putting on the list Andrew.

  • Comment number 47.

    1995 sounds great! :)

  • Comment number 48.

I disagree with several posts above stating that a vote for anything post 1997 is wasted vote and telling me not to vote for races from that time. Especially as of the five races listed, the 1998 race is by far the most extraordinary. Andrew invites everyone in this blog to express their opinions freely. It is NOT "pointless" to vote for a race psot 1997 purely due to the availablity of footage alone. As Andrew has said before, our responses alone do not ultimately decide which grand prix will be shown as extended highlights. My vote is for the best of the bunch which is 1998. My second choice would be 1985.

  • Comment number 49.

I'm going to have to go with 1998, although 95 seems to be winning at the moment... Won't be too dissapointed with that one, would be my second choice...

  • Comment number 50.

It has to be the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix, purely because there was so much drama - the crash at the start, Hakkinen getting cuaght out at the second corner, Schumacher's accident when he hit Coulthard, Fisichella colliding with Shingi Nakano (a former Minardi driver), and of course, the Jordan one-two. In my opinion, the 1998 grand prix was truly one of the best. It's certainly the most memorable.

  • Comment number 51.

    1995, for full highlights.

  • Comment number 52.

    1995 Please !!!

The 1995 race in full is on Pitlane Fanatic .
Also highlights of the Schumacher v Hill duel from the same race.

  • Comment number 53.

    1995 and 1998.
1995 - because of full highlights and epic duel of Schumacher v Hill.
1998 - Bceause of the most frantic race ever in F1 Hsitory and I bet ITV loved every minute of it and plus Eddie Jordan had a dance jiggle.
Plus I hope the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú get the whole ITV Highlights when James Allen's frantic commentary as Schumacher threatens to punch Coulthard!

  • Comment number 54.

I won't vote for 1985 because my memory doesn't go that far back. ;)

I'd just like to say that 2008 wasn't boring until the final 3 laps. The first 2 or 3 laps when the track was damp were quite chaotic, especially with Trulli's lightning start, many position changes and Raikkonen's Eau Rouge bravery, but 2004 would have been a better choice over 2008 in my view. Montoya's overtaking was ridiculous. Round the outside of Massa going into Eau Rouge, and overtaking 2 cars in the middle of Eau Rouge!

For extended highlights, I would go for 1992 because that is one of the few races I would like to see because of the many developments that occurred in that race. 1995 was great but I've seen that race quite a few times already.

However, my ultimate vote would definitely be for 1998. The carnage, collisions and only 8 cars running at the end were nothing compared to the massive first-lap crash. The sight of Ricardo Rosset's Tyrrell going full-throttle into the wreakage was just hilarious

  • Comment number 55.

just a question. we had 4 weeks in which you guys at the bbc could have put something, anything for us f1 fanatics to view on the red button facility yet we had nothing. via the website you gave us all 3 weeks to choose our favorite european gp but put it on the red button for only a day-i feel an opportunity is really being missed here, there must be a load of stuff in the archieve especialy all the bildup stuff you guys used to do in the mid 1990's, so in extended periods of f1 stick something on, anything we'll have anything!. great idea for the highlight of past gp by the way just dissapointed they dont stay on very long! spa 1995 is my choice-even as a damon hill fan watching another near miss back in 1995 it was a great gp!

  • Comment number 56.

spa 1995 is my first choice, 1998 excellent especially as a hill fan wanting damon to show mclaren what they missed out on not signing him that year and 1997 was pretty good too. here's an idea hows about a red button program on the 50 best f1 drivers or a brits special one week then brazilians and so on, or the best overtaking manovers ever seen? the best looking f1 cars in history, f1 rivalries/controversies, a profile on a team charting the history of each of the famous past and present names i f1 even a spins and daftest crashes compilation i.e taki inoue getting knocked over by the ambulance in hungary 1995 or the coulthars pitlane crash at adelaide? sorry but to go on about this but the 4 wk gap has been doing me in!!!

  • Comment number 57.

    1985

  • Comment number 58.

    2008 :)

  • Comment number 59.

    1985 please.

1992 would be my second choice.

  • Comment number 60.

I'd love to see 1992 or 1995. 1992 because it was the first win of the sports greatest driver - Schuey showed his genius after spotting team-mate Brundles worn tires. 1995 was a fantastic wet/dry race with a great drive from Schuey and also a final career podium for Martin Brundle.

  • Comment number 61.

    Spa rocks! 1995 please.

  • Comment number 62.

1998 - the crash!! my brother and i remember watching it so clearly at a family bbq and we just went nuts! it was brilliant seeing all the drivers running back to the pits to get into their spare cars - best of all no one got hurt :)

  • Comment number 63.

Another vote for 1995 here. A race which truly had everything, including absolutely classic racing between Hill and Schumacher, but watch out for the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's very own Martin Brundle becoming critical at the end!

  • Comment number 64.

1998 is simply the greatest race I've ever seen on any circuit. However, purely for the sake of extended highlights, my vote goes to 1995.

  • Comment number 65.

    Can't decide between '92 and '95.

Probably 1995 as that was the pivotal moment where I had total respect for Schumacher's ability. People often argue he was a dirty racer but the moves he pulled that day were completely fair and never weaved across the track a la 2000, he used one move to block Hill's attacks as if the 1 move rule was implemented that year.

Hill should've won in 1995 and was near hopeless. No wonder Williams wanted to get rid of him and signed up Frentzen that year.

  • Comment number 66.

well it would be 1998 as i have never seen this race in full since youtube have always removed it :( . But since it was the pre-allen era at least you should be able to keep the comentry from itv. I would love it if you could put a reasonable chunck of the race from 1998 maybe 15mins as it was a good one for so many reasons especially with the remarkable result for jordan, surely it aint that hard to upload the full race anyways surley you have the footage somewere, but i doubt that will happen and we will get a 5 mins highlights!

  • Comment number 67.

1998 please. Will always remember cheering that!

  • Comment number 68.

    Interesting choice, this one.

Was really looking forward to seeing Schumacher's return in Valencia, but if we can't have this, can we please have the full highlights for the great man's first win in 1992. That will be a bit nostalgic and some sort of consolation for the fans at least.

    Quick question Andrew.

You said in your Europe blog that we previously had two full highlights programmes for some races because the public wanted one year and you thought that another should be given the full programme service as well.

If this is the case, couldn't we have two full programmes where the 'winner' and 'runner-up' are both contenders for the full Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú highlights treatment?

  • Comment number 69.

1998 is a true classic, really a stand out GP for me so its got to be that

  • Comment number 70.

Going to have to go with 1998. I know it is disappointing to not have a meaty 30-45 min highlights guys but half of something is better than all of nothing and... well it was a classic race.

Although I will concede 1995 is a good choice too. 08, 92 and 85 don't actually stick in my mind - well except 92 being Schumacher's first win.

  • Comment number 71.

Oh and can I nominate 2004 next year? It was the best race of a rather dull season dominated by Schumacher and McLaren's first win of that season. To quote grandprix.com "it was a barnstormer of a race with six different cars in the lead, three Safety Cars and accidents all over the place."

  • Comment number 72.

Why isn't the 2000 race nominated?
That race saw the Shumacher - Hakkinen battle at its zenith.
I agree with extended highlights of the 1995 race.
    1998 was awesome.
2008 was only exciting in the last 3 laps. So why choose it?
My vote goes to the 2000 grand prix

  • Comment number 73.

It has to be 1998 - The race where so much happened and the result was completely random!

Also, there are so many clips of this race on YouTube so there must be a lot of people who want to see it!

  • Comment number 74.

    1.) 1985
    2.) 1992
    3.) 1995
Could i make a suggestion for next year re voting, choose one race from each decade over the last 50/60 years for most of the tracks, and selection of choices from tracks no longer on the calender for the newer tracks Thanks

  • Comment number 75.

1985 and 1992 please - plus the cars in 1992 looked especially good IMHO.

  • Comment number 76.

I would go for 1998 - full of incident from start to finish. 1995 is very tempting though

  • Comment number 77.

I'd prefer long highlights of the 1985 race.
I also think that the voting format should be changed.

We should only be voting for the extended highlights (because voting for races post 1997 is pointless). Of the choices, the top two should get full highlights, and all other (post 1997 races included) should get short.

Also next year (for the modern races eg. Bahrain, China, Turkey) do we just get the same as this year plus full highlights of this years race or do we get another ex-races vote?

  • Comment number 78.

1998. It was one of *the* F1 moments of the last 15 years. Has to be shown.

  • Comment number 79.

I'd like to see 1985, it was the year I was born and I'd love to see footage of Senna racing the Lotus.
Although my personal favourite is 2004 when Kimi won whilst Schumacher took his last championship. It was the beginning of the latest era I think and a great race

  • Comment number 80.

It's go to be 1998 for me. Hill and Schumacher - woo-hoo! And I love seeing Michael angry. Murray's commentary on the massive crash at the start was legendary.

1985. No point in choosing 1998.

  • Comment number 83.

1985 without a doubt. I'd love to see it.

    1985!!

  • Comment number 85.

    I vote for 85.

Seems as though 95's going to get it. Schu fans think that was such a wonderful victory... so impressive the way he passed Alesi, Berger, and Coulthard when they were parked on the side of the road!! Why don't you try and pass somebody mate!!

Senna's win in 1985, because of all the driving performances that was the best in my view.

Senna braved it out passing Mansell on the wet part of the track on the way into Eau Rouge.

    Yes,

85 gets my vote. Please show this..

1998 for me!! but it won't be full high lights and that is very sad but rules are rules.

I vote for 1995 but I'd Love to see 1992, Oh it's a tricky one. Could we have 1992 and 1995 for full high lights! that would be great...

(I wish ITV would allow the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú to show the full high lights but it's still nice of ITV to allow the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú to show coverage after 1996)

Definitely '95 for extended highlights. Also happens to be the year i was there and was a cracker of a race weekend despite the rain.

  • Comment number 90.

Goodness me, there are just too many! But if I had to pick one, it would have to be 1995. And then, maybe 2008, even though the main action came in the last couple of laps!

1998 was a fantastic race and you couldn't help but be delighted for Hill and Jordan. I've seen it though so I'm torn between '92 and '95. I'll go for 1992 as it was Schumacher's first win and I've seen less of it than '95. The great thing about Spa though is that nearly every year is a classic race- the only ones that haven't been good in recent memory are 1999 and 2007.

  • Comment number 92.

I'm going to go for 1992 although 1985 comes a close second. I would be made very very happy if both these races were shown as extended highlights =D

  • Comment number 93.

1985 please - but with that crummy old bore Walker replaced by the Radio 5 commentators PLEASE!

  • Comment number 94.

1995 was a classic but i have to go for 1998, what a mental race!!!
Mass carnage at the start followed by the Schumacher/Coulthard bust up and ending with a Jordan 1-2! Epic stuff.

    1985!!!

  • Comment number 96.

    1998 please!
Brings back so many memories of me being 9 years old and thinking it was the best f1 race ever.

  • Comment number 97.

1985 PLEASE!!! That race is so difficult to follow on the year-end video and would LOVE extended highlights, I'm too young to remember it, I was only 7 then!

(1998 would probably be my first choice if there were full extended highlights available though!!)

  • Comment number 98.

Another good choice of 5, pretty much all of those races are classics in my view. Gutted 2000 isn't on the list, cause that race has to be Mika Hakkinen's finest performance ever !!!

But as for full Highlights 1992 please :)
Just remember it being a very competive and close race between Mansell, Patrese, M Schumacher and Brundle.
Plus it would be cool to see the very 1st of M Schumacher's 91 wins again !!!

  • Comment number 99.

    I choose 1995.

For a more recent Belgian Grand Prix, I would have chosen 2004, instead of 2008. Maybe 2004 could be a choice for next year.

95 or 98. Did love 2008 though. What a finish. But Damon's battles with Michael in 95 and then Ralf in 98 were quality.
