Idlewild are a band who are notable for three exciting things.
THING 1: They used to be hardcore (in a punk sense) and popular, then they decided to become folky and REM-ish and popular. At no point did this dangerous shift in sound cause a dip in their quality control, and their last album still got a positive review in Kerrang!. That's the value of being nice boys who also ROCK.
THING 2: They once released an album called 'Hope Is Important'. My friend Rob bought this album because he felt a band who wanted to spread a message as warm and caring as this should have some support from the public. Sadly, it was not his cup of tea. But he never regretted buying it, because, well, hope IS important, isn't it?
THING 3: Their lead singer is called Roddy Woomble. The band are probably sick of people finding this AMAZING, but that's just their hard cheese. Roddy Woomble is officially the BEST POP STAR NAME EVER. Donny Tourette? NOT EVEN CLOSE!
Anyway, this little history lesson is just a preamble to me telling you that Idlewild have a new single out on February 26th. It's called 'No Emotion', and it's slinky...
