The Gossip - 'Standing In The Way Of Control'

Post categories:

Fraser McAlpine | 12:16 UK time, Monday, 19 February 2007

The GossipThe Gossip's Beth Ditto recently griped that she's sick of playing to audiences who don't know their Ramones. So who knows how she feels about returning to the charts via an ad campaign for E4's teen-version of an aftershave ad, Skins.* Or, for that matter, touting her band round the chat-show circuit to re-promote it (reckon Alan Carr knows his Dee Dee from his Joey?).

( - Windows media only)

True, these may not be the listeners that she ideally wishes to attract, but maybe she was in a mood when she said it. Frankly, the fact that this song barely grazed the charts on its first release tells us that the Gossip should be less concerned about the Ramones' back catalogue and more distressed by the fact that the British public came so close to letting a current pop gem slip through their fingers.

And so, we happily strap on our glittery riotboots for a second round of disco-protest against the American government's gay marriage policy. And we ask, is there anything better than meaningful lyrics blasted out by a ballsy girl and set to a bass-heavy full-on rock-out? Railing against the system *and* an invitation to robo-dance. We heed this call!

*Did you know that Simon Amstell has co-written an episode of Skins? Did you? Hmm?

Four starsCD released: February 26th
