Light before we arrived for work today...

Chris Evans | 06:19 UK time, Wednesday, 7 March 2012

... First time this year. Do you think that as the days stay lighter longer, so do we ? That's how it feels sometimes. Hey ho, there we go.

Back from Italy last night, after a couple of days hanging around with some car dudes. After my friend Morgs left his bag in the lounge in Bologna, he was in such a tizz. He then bought himself a bottle of his favourite gin to take home with him. At passport control in the UK, "d'oh !" He exclaimed, he'd only gone and left that on the plane as well.

His journey home was also quite light. A lot lighter than he'd intended.

Peace and Love

    Morning All,

You're right Chris, these light mornings are great, puts a real spring in your step.

MagicBusDriver - You should try a walking holiday sometime, they are fantastic and you get to see parts of the countryside that you would never normally get the chance to.

    Have a good day everyone

MBD - I guess its what you like - I would love to try a walking holiday but mr bp isnt so keen.

However my idea of hell would be a week partying and drinking and sleeping all day and not seeing any of the local culture - each to their own

Love the AC/DC this morning - great way to start what will be a grotty day - my training has been calncelled so once again I am alone all day, no one to talk to and doing the worlds most boring job - iXBRL anyone?

I am not great spending too much time on my own and so far tis week I have been alone all day at work and then most of the evening as well - this is not good!

    Hi Chris,
Just like know if you bought the barn find FERRARI 250 GTE that went to auction recently. If you did then congratulations! It's going to be beautiful when restored.
The only 4 seat FERRARI to have! So stylish, and understated with a real presence.
    Thanks.

Hiya Chris: welcome back. xx Yes, indeed, the light mornings definitely make me feel a lot lighter, and indeed brighter! Poor old Morgs: what a nightmare trip for him!

Hi everyone else: hope you are well this rather damp Hump Day.

Dozer: what a shame about D's sore foot. I know how much the two of you love your walking holidays. This will sound fairly crazy, but I have just discovered how much I love walking ... and poor MrS has a sore foot, too, and can't join me! Hope someone can help you out with info on the narrowboat thingy. xx

Baggy: we're here for you, so please don't be too lonely!

    Have a good day, everyone.

    Morning everyone ..... We're BACK!

Not caught up yet but will attempt a swift read-back between tackling the mountain of laundry currently languishing on the kitchen floor.

Chris, love the pic of you and Jeremy Clarkson. Is it worth a "listen again"? Our apartment in Goa had satellite tv and the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Entertainment channel show Top Gear about 3 times a day - all from about 2003! Messrs Clarkson, May and Hammond looked like 6th From Students in most of them!

Yesterday was a VERY long day. India is 5 1/2 hours ahead of the UK, so by the time we went to bed last night I'd been awake since about 7am Monday (India time), with no sleep Monday night (travel nerves and alarm failure paranoia), then a full day of travel yesterday with a 10 and three-quarter hour flight home. Needless to say I slept like a baby but woke up at 3.25 am thinking it was 8am and time to get up.

    Hmph!

Lovely to hear Chris and the team this morning and look out at some great British rain. Nowhere does rain like Britain!

    Laters - missed you all!

    Good morning all,

Morning Chris ,glad the trip went well ,not so for your pal Morgs ,bet he wasn't happy .
Can someone tell me me who Chris was talking to a few minutes ago ,his voice is very familiar ?? Please.

Baggy ,hope you find away around the boredom, but at the moment I'd give my back teeth to be on my own ,but then I'd be pottering and moving around so I can sympathise with you .
I hope that you get something sorted re your fund raising ,great stuff. A few years ago We lost a dear friend ,and the local doctors had been so good that my friends and I got together and we had a Table Top Sale in our garden ,each had a different stall and we did teas and things and all proceeds went to the surgery and they bought a defibrillator with the money raised ,went to good use and saving lives.WE had to get permission from the surgery to do it .

Dozer ,your boating holiday is sounding exciting ,you will be spoilt for choice as to where to go as there so many waterways up and down the country.Didn't Crumpy say there was a stairway of locks in chester??
Isn't there any canals between the lochs up there in your lovely part of the world ?.Hope D's foot isnt bothering him too much .

Grey day here also but it seems to be very mild again ,no rain as yet.

    Deev, welcome back.

Take care all and have a good day..Bids.xxx.

Crissie /Deevs ,morning to you also , Walking is what I should be doing more of I must say .

    Morning All,

I love the lighter mornings, it makes you feel more inclined to actually get out of bed! Bit dreary and miserable here today though.

Welcome back Deevs, glad you are home safe and sound and that you had a good time. As Bids said it will take you a while to get back into the swing of things!

Dozer, I went on a canal boat holiday a long time ago with some friends. It was around the Northampton area and we had a great time, I would thoroughly recommend it.

Baggy, I'm alone today too :( But I am off out for a meeting at 2:00, so I'll keep you company until then.

Here's a little story to brighten up your day, at my expense!

Yesterday the office kettle gave up and my colleague said he had a spare one (we merged offices last year), so I thought that I should boil it out first as it's been sitting in a cupboard for months. After it had boiled I was walking to the kitchen to empty the hot water out and refill it ready to make a brew and I noticed a funny smell! So I went to sniff the kettle, but got my nose a bit too close and burnt the end of it...doh! I now have a red mark on the end of my nose :) I chuckle to myself every time I think about it - what a donut!

    As you were.

    Happy Hump Day

Hi Bids, Dozer, Baggy, Chrissie and Adie (and anyone else who snookles in as I type!)

It's only 2 days until Little Boy Puppy officially joins the ChezNic clan - I'm sure that once he's grown up a bit and full of energy I shall be doing an awful ot of walking!

Not sure about early nights and lay ins Bids - there's work to be done you know.

Ali - you snookled in under the radar!

I've got a red nose too. Thankfully it's not peeling yet, but I fear it's just a matter of time.

It goes nicely with the brown face and white panda eyes from reading in the sun every day!

Cheryl: welcome back - hope you had a terrific holiday - bet your Mum loved spoiling you! I sympathise re: the jet lag. It's that "cotton wooly" feeling - it's horrible isn't it?!

Hi Bids: yes, I'm loving the walking, but not as ambitious as our lovely Dozer ... my walks consist of about a mile from the house to the "bottom slapping" store, and back again! Hope you have a good day - are things getting back to normal at work?

I did mean to say earlier, to CSN: your post yesterday #89 was just lovely. xx

  • Comment number 12.

    Hi Chrissie

To be honest, I think we got the balance right of how much we saw of mum and how much time we had on our own to enjoy our holiday. Our faviourite bit was last Saturday/Sunday - we went on an overnight trip to South Goa to an unspoilt beach where we spent the night in luxury Bedouin (sp?) tents. I didn't get much sleep but laying there listening to the waves crashing on the shore in the middle of the night was magical.

We also went to a massive waterfall and swam in the ice cold water at the bottom of the waterfall.

I've taken loads of pics and will put some on FaceAche later.

Deev - welcome back - we've kept the blog going just for you - but its great to see you

re: light mornings - this morning I had to turn the light on again - what is it about rain that makes the world seem dull and grey?

    Come back Mr Blur Sky!!

    baggy

  • Comment number 14.

Hi Cheryl: yes, I know what you mean about making sure you had time together - when visiting family, it's always good to have some time to yourselves, too. Sounds really terrific, but I would have found that waterfall a tad chilly!

AliB: bless your wee nose! Now, I would have suggested this anyway - buy a wee tub of the nappy rash cream beginning with an "S" and ending with an "m" - it's terrific stuff. And I see it's in the papers today that this cream is the new must-have! It will work perfectly on your wee burnt nose, and in the meantime you will be using the cream the Stars recommend!

    Morning all!

Grey and mizzerly here today - and I'm all on my own in the office as usual!

Can't be down hearted though - lunch with a friend and my lovely Mum to look forward to and you lot to keep me company!

Deevs, good to here you're back safe and sound. Has your Mum lived in India for long?

Ali, your kettle injury reminds me of the time I came home and picked up the iron I had left standing on the board in the conservatory. The handle felt very hot and, thinking it had got hot in the sun, I put my hand of the plate to find it was very hot - I had left it switched on all day!!!! Ouch iness

Chrissie, Sudo-shh is brilliant stuff - until your 2 year old gets hold of it when he's meant to be sleeping and spreads it across his legs and arms and face and.......Do you know how hard it is to get off!?!?

Right, best look busy in case anyone comes by!

  • Comment number 17.

Hi Sezza: oooh, I know, it's murder to get off - it's not meant to fall into the "wrong" hands! A wee bird tells me that white wine vinegar works like a dream to remove the stuff from carpets, doors, etc - but I don't think you would use it on legs, arms or face!

AliB: you are very welcome. xx Just had a cuppa half an hour ago, but would be happy to join you in one!

    xx

  • Comment number 18.

    Hi Sezza

Mum and my step-dad live half the year in India (Oct-April) and then have May-Sept in the UK - their life is one constant Summer! They've been going to Goa for about 14 years now, but only doing to 50/50 thing for about 10 years.

To be honest, I couldn't live there. It was just too hot some afternoons (high 30s, sometimes 40 degrees), very dry and dusty. Also there were regular power cuts every evening (this is normal in India).

By some miracle of miracles neither of us suffered with the infamous "Delhi Belly" - in fact, most of the meals we had out were absolutely fantastic. Most of the restaurants have a muli-continent cuisine, so if you like, one of you can have an Indian and the other a Chinese/Italian. Or you can be like CLP and go for a "Chindean" but all under one roof. I also managed NOT to get bitten by any mozzies - but this probably had more to do with the industrial strength DEET I was using every night!

Right, showered, dressed - shopping list done so let's go see if the car starts and fill that fridge up!

    Back later, you lovely lot.

Chrissie, I have a couple of pots of that cream, especially good at nappy changing times. xx

Ali, hope your nose feels better soon. xx

I think I am going to get very wet now taking the dog for a walk.

Christoph - welcome back! You were missed but it was also very nice listening to the dulcit tones of Richard Allinson ..... a worthy replacement x

Deevs - so glad you had a great time away. It sounds wonderful and look forward to seeing the piccies. I remember the jet lag after flying back from New Zealand via Hong Kong. It was a few days before I knew exactly which way was up!!

Sorry I haven't been on here lately - work has prevented me from posting or even lurking, but it's nice to see old and new names on here. Hope everyone is well x

'Im indoors is still unemployed and things are starting to get a little dire now. Six weeks on, there was no sign of his Job Seekers Allowance being paid, so when he signed on and challenged them last week it transpired that his National Insurance number was one digit out so he had "insufficient contributions and we cannot pay you". "Why didn't you write to me?" asked 'im indoors. "Oh but we did" said they ...... when the address was checked, they'd been writing to him at our previous address, which we left 11 months ago! I was beyond words and tears when he told me but after seeing them again yesterday they assured him that it's all been sorted and that money will be forthcoming very soon. Grrrrrrr ...

That's it - ranty pants are now off ..................... who wants them next?!

Jillygoat: just awful - the incompetence is staggering. Thank goodness MrJilly spoke up last week, or this would have dragged on for ever. It is a terrible worry when money is really tight, I do know. xx

CSN: hope your walk with your lovely dog was not too wet.

Just to say, I am absolutely gutted that Alan Carr is giving up his Saturday show. Yes, I know that sometimes it's a bit too giggly and a wee bit over the top, but he never fails to make me laugh. I'm really going to miss him and Mel!

I'm just learning to become a reflexologist, and read that woking the liver reflex area could benifit, as well as general circulation reflexs....I've been seeing a top chap for some stuff I needed sorting out, Tony Porter, may be of interest to you.
Please let me know how you get on if you try, will help inspire me on my path :-)
    Many bests x Emma

  • Comment number 23.

Chrissie - thank you x It's just as well I didn't go with him as I'm on a really short fuse at the moment. My dad's now unwell, mum's speech is really bad (oh how I miss our lovely long chats), and my aunt who's 91 is in hospital and we've been told that if she survives she will have to go into a nursing home, so she won't be coming home. If anyone upstairs is listening, I'm still waiting for the year to start!

I really like Alan Carr and Melanie Sykes, but the screechy laughing can grate a little, but I'm really sorry he's giving up the show. Still, I love Chatty Man so at least we've still got that to look forward to.

    Afternoon everyone.

Sorry to hear your predicament JillyG , it does make you wonder if computers have taken over and common sense and brain power are redundant.

I am loving the fact that the days are drawing out . I am getting ready for work without the need for lights, and getting home in the daylight is just a delight.
Not long to go now, and the hour will be going forward .... bring it on.

Deevs, glad you had a nice time, looking forward to hearing about your new puppy.

Sezza, just thought i'd mention it ..... but i have finished reading "Room" . Scoobs originally sent it to me, but said she wants me to pass it on , so would you like me to send it to you ?? No worries if not ....

Been lashing it down here this morning, but brightening up now.

In other news ..... i think I have cured my "rotator cuff " problem. Well, not entirely cured , but how ridiculous is this ....... after two weekends of gardening , heavy lifting and decorating, it is starting to move more freely . I can even dress myself without having to do " the swizzle" :-) . It's still tender , but nothing like it was before, I was truly miserable then, now i'm just back to being normal miserable :-)))

Right, off to the fridge .........

MC: excellent news about your rotator cuff. Hopefully you are on the mend, but as AliB says, don't overdo it. xx

Jillygoat big hugs sounds like things are really getting you down at the moment. I know what you mean about the benefits office I had some friends who had problems with them a few months ago, they seem to make things very hard. I hope im in doors finds something very soon. Sorry to hear about your parents and aunt to, it all seems to be very worrying for you. Try to keep positive and remember we are all here for you. Take care of yourself.

Deevs you lucky girl it sounds like you had a fabulous time of it I have friends of mine who go to Goa for about 3 weeks every January they love it and say the same as you, going to have to talk im indoors into being a bit more adventurous with his holiday plans. His excuse is the injections but he has forgotten that he has had to have all hepatitis injections because of his job and they are the same ones required for going further afield. huhuhuh (wicked laugh). Oh and Randall is joining you soon lovely.

Newbie alert - looks friendly in here.

Sunshine definitely brightens the mood. I've been stood on a wet and windy stall at a farmer's market trying to keep my spirits up whilst keeping my shelter down on the ground. The honey man and olive guy sang 'Bring Me Sunshine' whilst I did the Morcombe and Wise sundance, and the sun made an appearance - hurrah. Suddenly there were customers and that certainly made me feel better!

    Morning everyone

Well, my day may not be exciting enough to whet the appetite for adventure that floats MBD's boat, but it's sure going to be a busy one, and that's good enough for me!

I've been awake since 4am thinking of my "To Do" list, and now I've written it all down I'm kind of wishing I hadn't as it's scaring me somewhat .....

CG - we'll have to compare notes as to Henry and Randall's progress: one of my jobs today is a final puppy check of the house - cables, ornaments, gaps in the fence etc all need sorting within the next 24 hours. I'm tempted to get a plaque for the gate with a picture of a Rotweiler on it too ;-)

We have said that should we ever get a 2nd puppy in the future (which we won't!) it would be called Boycott after Sir Geoffrey of cricketland.

Right, my list awaits. Here's to a good day of blogment - you lot are like my office colleagues now I'm working from home!

Last night: I had dinner with Colin Firth. That guy is an absolute card, how we laughed - what a sense of humour he has! And, of course, he is a babe.

Tonight: playing squash with Katie Price. Good grief, should be an absolute scream watching Kate running round the court in those ridiculously short-shorts she insists on wearing!

Coming up: Saturday: go-karting with the Queen and Prince Philip - what larks!

    Awww, MBD, just joshing!

Off for a boring cup of tea, will be back soon with some more really boring stuff.

    Have a good day, everyone.

    C xx

    Morning Baggles!

CLP - the BEST ever tribute band in the entire world has to be T-Rextacy. Their lead singer, Danielz, is the spit of Marc Bolan. They also hold the rights to much of Marc's back-catalogue.

2012 is the 35th Anniversary of Marc's sad passing.

Chris, please don't play James Morrison on the show - it just reduces me to a quivering wreck of a woman, complete with wibbly wobbly knees and fluttery palpitations.

Be still my beating heart ......

Coooooooo Eeeeee! tis only me CB.

Nothing really breathtakingly exciting to report apart from finished the fire place off last night with the new chrome fittings I bought blind... I know can you believe it, hadnt seen them just ordered them over the phone and got to see them in situ last night and bloomin eck! they were better than I thought - maybe that will be exciting enough for MBD.

Anyway howdy TS hope you stick around and join in the fun.

Chrissie didnt know you had such a star studded address book you kept that one under your Garry (Bushell) obviously.

Deevs/CG - new pups and good luck with reinforcing everywhere before the deliveries.

Best tribute I saw was Killer Queen the freddie mercury look alike has spent about 20k getting the look just right including the teeth.

The worst was the spanish frank sinatra/dean martin who didnt speak a word of english and learnt the words from playing the records, his rendition of my way is legendary in how house. Every so often when I ask him to the ole fella indoors does a cracking impression of him still makes us giggle now. In fact he was so bad we went back the second time to see him again as we didnt believe it the first time.

Oh well off now to fight dragons, rescue damsels in distress, rescue cats from trees and swim with sharks... oh sorry forgot my life isnt that exciting so I shall just put my nose to the grindstone then.

oi deevs about time you made the tea in this virtual office isnt it?

    Back later chums

Cheryl: I thank you for that accolade, and am happy to accept! And, isn't it incredible that it has been 35 years since Marc passed away, and he was just a baby - I was so shocked at the time.

Bids: wouldn't it just be wonderful if any of it was true ... especially the Colin Firth thingy! And, it won't be long until end of April, honest!

CG: lovely to hear that you are getting a new puppy, too.

CSN: hope you had a lovely evening with CSN.

Sal: Loving your work last night!

Dozer: last night (after leaving Colin!) I had a Listen Again to Vanessa on Tuesday. How lovely, it actually gave me goosebumps! Thanks for letting me know about this - you know how much I love my Osmonds!

MC: if you can, have a listen to Vanessa's "I want to wake up with you" slot on Tuesday, 6th - just before 06.20 - you will LOVE it!

Can I ask - has anyone heard from our lovely Annie? I may have missed that she has gone somewhere, so sorry if she already told us!

Right, off to do some work!

    Bids - thank you x

MagicBusDriver - if your comment about looking for sympathy was meant for me, let me assure you that certainly was not the case.

If you find the blog as dull as you say then I'm surprised you can be bothered to stick around. You know, it wouldn't be easy, but we could probably just about live without your sarcasm.

    Hi Chris

Have I heard right....Are you still looking for a tribute band for your Bank Holiday CarFest...I am a PA for a premier Beatles Tribute Band, office based in Haslemere, Surrey - let me know if we can help x

    Psssssssssssssttttt:

PJ here - still not wanted on my Jury Service. A girl could get quite hurt you know. Not needed until Tuesday now. You never know I might not actually get to see any action at this rate.

Talking of tribute bands. Of course the Mathew Street Festival in Liverpool is also over the August Bank Holiday weekend. It's all tribute bands. A great weekend. Think I have mentioned before the Argentinian Queen - were brilliant.

    Hello Ladies

    The sun is shining here.

Lots of lovely posts this morning.

Thank you Chrissie, had a lovely meal last night with Mister CSN. Please can I have your autograph. xx

Today I will be dog grooming and walking.

Just had a very strange phone call. LOL!

    csn. xx

    Morning All,

The sun is shining here too - hooray!

For what it's worth, I think we all lead quite exiciting lives; even if sometimes they are made up eh Chrissie ;)

Dozer, I agree about the moon last night, absolutely stunning. I stopped and stared at it for quite sometime.

csn, Bless Mrcsn and his lovely guesture. He sounds like a keeper xx

    Welcome truleyscrummy, stick around xx

In order to prove that my life is exciting this morning I did a litter pick around the church - yes I get all the good jobs and I collected: an empty bottle of voddie, a pair of childs pants (which I think must have blown off a line in the wind earlier this week), a nibbled apple (by a mouse), a surgical glove, and an empty pack that ends with "ex". There was also a spade hidden in the bushes, which I nearly picked out with my bare hands, but then realised that my finger prints would be all over it, so I left it where it was.......just in case!

    100% true.

    me again:

PJ: yes, it can be a real nuisance waiting around to hear if you will be called for Jury Service. Last time I was called for it, we were all called to the Court every day, kept in the waiting room - for hours - and then told to go home and phone in that evening. This went on for a full working week, and then two days of the next week. My boss was fuming!

CSN: my mind is racing at what your phone call could have been!

AliB: I find it unbelievable that people can just leave litter lying around - well done on your efforts, and good thinking about leaving the spade!

Oh, and I did mean to say earlier to trulyscrumpy: welcome.

Kim: if you haven't already done so, it might be an idea to email the show - all emails are definitely read by Chris's team, but it's not guaranteed that they will read the blog. I would love to be a PA to a Beatles tribute band!

    Jillygoat: sending you a big hug {{{xx}}}

AliB - crikey, you could write a novel based on what you've found this morning!!

CSN - my mind is boggling about the phone call !

    Hi Chrissie:

Sounds like I have been let off lightly then - so far. Only had two days of the waiting room. Work were surprised to see me in yesterday. For some reason there was plenty to do.

CSN: Do tell about your phone call.

    Regards PJ
