Census: excitement mounts

Graham Smith | 07:42 UK time, Wednesday, 30 March 2011

From the 麻豆官网首页入口 staff journal Ariel's "Earwigging" column, overhearing those water-cooler conversations: "When will we know if the Cornish have beaten the Jedi?"

There you go again, Mr Smith - shabby and contrived personal fixation 'journalism'.
Here's one you cooked up earlier:

Shabby journalism doesn't come much shabbier than this!
The 麻豆官网首页入口 appears to have an institutional aversion to describing Cornwall as it really is - The Celtic Nation And Duchy Of Cornwall which is NEXT to England just like Scotland and Wales - and its Cornish people as distinct from the English . Is this because so many in the 麻豆官网首页入口 heirarchy and the London based anglo-centric media see Cornwall & Scilly as their weekend colonial shangrila - take those 麻豆官网首页入口 staffer hijacked outposts such as Fowey, Port Isaac and Padstow for example - and are attempting to do all in their power to maintain their residential property usurping and Cornish community wrecking foothold by disseminating false information on a daily basis?

If writing 鈥淐ornish鈥 on the census form does beat the 鈥淛edi鈥, so what?

I would rather read something on your blog Graham concerning what the council will be doing with this information, the information they were so eager to promote at tax payers expense.

With your expertise Graham this shouldn鈥檛 be too hard to find out.

Jedi are proactive, assertive and get things done, so there's a good chance they may have been more forward in their claim of status.

  • Comment number 4.

Are the terms Cornish and Jedi exclusive? Why can't you be a Cornish Jedi?

    Graham Smith wrote:-
"When will we know if the Cornish have beaten the Jedi?"

A question akin to "When will we know if the English have beaten the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints?"
As you well know, you are not comparing like with like. Such false comparisons are somewhat derogatory and insulting.
Hardly 麻豆官网首页入口 impartiality at it's best.

  • Comment number 6.

The comparison between Jedi and Cornish is not "false".

Describing oneself as Jedi or Cornish will have no effect on British society, other than as a curiosity for historians in 20111.

    I agree with P Trembath.

Such false comparisons as between Jedi and Cornish are somewhat derogatory and insulting.

    To the Jedi.

BTW P Trembath, are you really trying to say that Graham has no right to express an opinion on this blog, and that he should toe some "麻豆官网首页入口 impartiality line"?

You are attempting to compare a Nationality/Ethnicity with a "Religion".
    Therefore a false comparison.

Oh well, at least they'll still be talking about us in a little over 18,000 years time. How long do you think you'll be remembered for?

Funnily enough, I read what Mr. Smith wrote as a reflection of the opinion of 麻豆官网首页入口 employees in general, or at least what he considers that opinion to be. The bit about it being overheard at the Water Cooler kind of gives it away, hence my comment regarding impartiality.
