The sounds of the belles

Mark Cummings | 11:51 UK time, Monday, 26 April 2010

Kay,Kim,Wendy,Sally,TheresaThe Breakfast Show welcomes back the Forest Belles this week. They are a group of business women from the Forest of Dean who let rip on any given subject matter.

Kay, Kim, Wendy, Sally and Theresa will entertain you with the help of our very own Kate Clark. Funny and forthright they always light up the show.

The topics this week include... how their businesses are coping... the election... are teenage girls more difficult than teenage boys?

The sensitive issue of how you address a woman has really taken off. Sally hates being called " you guys". How do you feel about love, darling, babe? Let me know the terms you find irritating, patronising or downright insulting?

To be perfectly honest I don’t mind what people call me as long as it’s said affectionately.

An affectionate ‘Love a Duck’ went down rather well on a bus in Leeds once - I rather liked being called that.

My youngest sister uses ‘Hon’ a lot - it’s her term of endearment.

‘Old girl’ from my local farmer is quite acceptable and probably accurate while the high flattery jobs of ‘hey gorgeous’ is absolutely spot on.

I agree with the belles that ‘Hi guys’ when you’re all women makes you wonder if the person saying it has a sight defect.

Girls, guys, ladies - who cares what they call us? Let's just be glad to be noticed and thank the Lord no one calls us 'love'. Not at the office, anyway.

Strikes me that if all professional women have to worry about today is being called a guy, all that bra-burning wasn't in vain.

    Next stop - the world.

I once called Anita Syvret 'love'.

    I still have the scars.

It struck me, after the fact or rather after our gathering at Hatties Cafe, that the name 'Belles' is rather nice for a group of women! Perhaps we could start a trend?

My wife calls me ... "sweetie" .. "honey" .... and those terms make me cringe.

Mind, I have to give her some leeway .... she's from Pontefract.
