PMS enters the P&J debate

Post categories: ,听,听

s_carson-1.jpgOn today's Sunday Sequence, the Presbyterian Moderator, Dr Stafford Carson, said that a government-backed resolution to the Presbyterian Mutual Society crisis would be a confidence-building measure for the Protestant community. I asked him directly if he was saying that the PMS issue, which has no direct relation to the devolution of policing and justice, could be seen as a "community confidence" issue in respect of policing and justice, and he said it could certainly be seen that way.

Our discussion on today's programme included John McFall MP, chair of the Treasury Select committee, Sir George Quigley, who is advising the Presbyterian Church, and the Rev Dr Stafford Carson.

I wonder what Rev Carson thinks he should do to restore the 'confidence' of the Presbyterian community in the leadership of the church. It is not the governement who let the PMS savers down, but the incompetent ministers who saw fit to handle millions of pounds on behalf of their congregations.

I hope PCI have learnt thier lesson & that they will refrain from offering financial advce in the future, especially "give your money to us and we'll look after it and put it to use for the good of the church" type of advice.

I am absolutely appalled at Stafford Carson's attempts to try to tie the PMS issue to the policing & justice issue. To try to use the current situation in Northern Ireland to force the Government to bail out the PMS & thereby cover the incompetence of the PMS directors is unbelievable. This comes after several comments by Stafford Carson to crticise the Government for not acting more qucikly to clear up PCI's mess. PMS failed because of the total incompetence of the PMS directors. The issue of the Government guarantee is a red herring which PCI has been hiding behind for months. PCI needs to accept the responsibility that is theirs and act immediately to sort this out & stop blaming others for their own mess.

It's always a good idea to read a blogline a couple of times before responding... I thought you wrote PB&J and couldn't understand what PMS has to do with that American favourite, "Peanut butter and Jelly/Jam..." But then, I'm not sure what it has to do with Policing and Justice either... However, I'm a Methodist, so I'll keep quiet...

I read PJ and thought "pyjamas?!!!"

Glad to see the Presbyterians haven't forgotten their Scottish roots - the Scottish Parliament agreed to vote itself out of existence, resulting for the Union of Parliaments and eventual Act of Union in exchange for being bailed out of the Darien scheme, its amazing what people will agree to in order to have their financial mistakes wiped out...

Shall we go the whole hog and rename this place 'New Caledonia'?

For those who haven't a clue what I'm on about, please see; n_scheme

LOL! Brilliant! "PMS has problems with PJs!"

That's like a headline from a science column in the Daily Mail. All you need is a connection to falling house prices and it's a front page!

Rev Carson delivered a series in his home church which he took from Tim Keller鈥檚 book 鈥淭he reason for God鈥. He called his series 鈥淕ot Questions?鈥

    One of the topics was:
The Church is responsible for so much injustice

Wonder if he wound post his sermon notes for reference?
Or maybe we should just read the book.
