Patrick Dalzell - Sport Interactive TV editor

One-stop shop for sport (10)

I will try not to use the dreaded "portal" word too much here as I understand from correspondence on this blog that it maybe a misnomer for what we are trying to achieve.

However I thought it would be good to try and put some context into what the portal is and and why we are doing it.

麻豆官网首页入口 Sport has a wealth of content but unfortunately it's all in lots of different places - on terrestrial TV, radio, online, mobile phone and interactive TV.

With particular regard to red-button TV (my area), the viewer experience in accessing our content is confusing and clunky.

That is partly down to a mixture of historical and technical limitations here at the 麻豆官网首页入口 and the digital TV platform (whether that is satellite, Freeview or cable).

We currently have excellent content in different areas under the red button but navigation between these areas is unsatisfactory. For instance, if you press red and select "sport" you get text stories and results/fixtures as you would on Ceefax.

But when we have live sport on the red button - - we have to flag it up separately by adding an extra bit of navigation that cannot sit beneath that general "sport" label.

This and other anomalies have prompted us to try and offer the viewer better access to the best of 麻豆官网首页入口 Sport content on Digital TV in one, easy-to-find place.

So for example this Saturday via the red button you can take your pick from , action from the and our football results programme, .

These events are in addition to Grandstand (which will be on 麻豆官网首页入口1 for some of the afternoon - but at certain points will switch to the red button only), which has horse racing from Aintree and further action from the snooker.

In grouping all of this content together with our sports news - and in the future our radio coverage (as we did for the Ryder Cup) - we hope we are taking small steps towards bringing you access to even more 麻豆官网首页入口 Sport content, when you want it.

This is all fine and dandy, so long as it isn't seen as an alternative to providing good coverage on national stations, as seems to be the case with the Ashes highlights, or an opportunity to ghettoise sports other than football as seems to be the trend with digital radio coverage.

To me it seems like a good idea. One specific request though - not that long ago you used to be able to watch the score i results whilst keeping Grandstand in vision instead of the score i studio. This option appears to have disappeared of late, which seems to be contrary to the idea of bringing sport content together in one place.

What really annoys me is you don't seem to give much attention to Freeview viewers - a group that is now as big as the Sky audience, and will soon over take it. For example, if you're listing what's on interactive you state what's on via Sky and then at the bottom say 'Unfortunately not all options are available to Freeview users.' Fine but why can't you tell us the options that are available? Also will the ever be a time when you can have the same amount of options on Freeview or will it always be like this?

I cannot find any other place to put my comment, but I have to get this off my chest so here it is.

Having listened earlier, to tonights sports news bulletin after the main news, I was disgusted , because of all the cheering for Alonso & Shumacher but not a mention of our own Jenson Button !!!
Button started 14th on the grid & finished on the podium in 3rd place. Was he mentioned ,? not once !
Nor is he on the page preceding this one.

So ask again , is the 麻豆官网首页入口 biased against it's own ? I say YES, very loudly.

Sir, a massive doff of the cap re: the term 'portal'.

But, 'One Stop Shop'? For the love of Powerpoint, man! It's straight out of the 1997 cliche frying pan and into the 1999 mixed metaphor of nomenclature fire.

Fair play though, site sounds pretty cool.

Its all very well showing the figure skating, bowls and score, plus FA Cup football audio commentaries via the red button.
But if you can't actually receive them cause there鈥檚 no option via the red button, how are you meant to watch these sports they kept telling us about in on Grandstand this afternoon.
I don't know if is telewests or the 麻豆官网首页入口's fault.

Also why aren't the all the races in Ski World Championships shown interactively, especially the men鈥檚 downhill, are well I鈥檒l just have to watch it on British Eurosport.
