I think that if the match on court 18 goes on for too long, the electronic scoreboard will force a tiebreak as it can only cope with two numbers ie 99, not 100!

Surely the England Germany game will get an even greater audience share? Live iPlayer numbers might be lower since it's on a Sunday though.

Hats off to everyone on the team. I can't fault Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Sport's online coverage, particularly the live-streaming of matches. I watched the England game on a 3G dongle yesterday with only a very occasional pause in the stream. And the picture quality was easily good enough to project onto the office wall :-)

This in stark contrast to ITV's offering. Their live streams frequently pause, to the extent that by half time, the feed is 6 minutes behind. They suffer frequent crashes and the whole site is confusing and poorly designed.

Excellent website coverage. Let's me catch up, if I've missed anything, but more importantly, let's me read and watch all the the build up, to the games. A stroke of genius having Motty do the web casts and having him on the highlights programme and some snippets at the end of some of the main programming. He brings a real sense of history to the event, with his wealth of knowledge and experiences of World Cup's gone by. Get him on the main live games. He should certainly be there for the England v Germany game. He's the only one on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú panel and amongst the commentators whom has seen all the Germany v England encounters, surely? Get him on the main panel for that game!! Very well done Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú.....

I think the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú coverage on TV, radio and the web has been great. Who will forget Robbie Savage's (unbiased) radio commentry at the Italy v New Zealand match! You only have to look at the ITV performance so far to see how it should not be done. Even their website is a mess. Generally, I find that Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú reporting has 'dumbed down' over the last few years but good to see their football coverage is not following that rule.

As ever the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú football coverage far outshines the second rate cheapskate stuff over on ITV. As an Everton fan I have already suffered at the hands of ITV's incompetence - the notorious cut to ad break during the Everton v Liverpool cup tie when we scored. To make this howler once could be classed as a mistake, but the same thing happened during their HD coverage of the England v USA game when Gerrard scored. Luckily we were watching on analogue in a pub in the back end of beyond as they couldn't pick up a decent HD signal, so we saw the goal.
A lot of football fans must think ITV should not be let anywhere near live football coverage.

Lewis -Congratulations on the viewing figures, good to see the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú doing what it does best, i.e. bringing the top sporting occasions into our homes, usually with thoughtful (even at times humourous) commentary and without interference!! I would personally be willing to pay another £10/yr on my TV licence if, ONLY the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú, were allowed to screen top football matches - but drop this 'Twitter' nonsense, its for wimps! Get back to proper blogging!

ITV's website and the appaling design not just of the 'final' screen you (eventually) manage to navigate to, but also the most irritating 'chat' window in the universe located just to the right of the match action, which is in turn frequently jagged, jumpy and jet-lagged and suffers from being about 6 minutes out of sync with the actual action owing to the awful streaming mechanisms they have in place (on average this is, having 'watched' 3 games so far - god only knows why though!) - well to give it higher than a 1 would be sheer folly.

Contrast this with Auntie Beeb's well thought out presentation, the uncluttered way you locate the screen, the actual streaming itself, and the infrequent (i.e. just the right amount, not an array of twotish clap-trap appearing literally every second) textual updates and you've got an absolute clear winner - 10 out of 10.

Well done the Beeb - apart from the vastly superior web site and subsequent streams, you not only have the best TV commentators, presenters, guests, but also project more polish, style and substance than your cheap and cheerful ITV counterparts.

Had a play with the neat Java "predictor" tool, but was a bit tee'd off to find that I had to put all the winners of the groups so far in. Surely this should be auto-filled as the results come in. Other than that, it's a great site.
