The Reporters: US mid-terms

Guto Harri

Crude credentials

Forget the economy, Iraq and other major issues in this campaign.

nall203.jpgA 32-year-old blonde in Alabama is appealing to the baser instincts of voters.

Hand over $50 to , and she'll apparently hand over a cartoon showing where her political heart lies - literally.

The 's candidate for governor doesn't have the money to launch a credible campaign at the moment, but she is drawing a lot of attention by focusing on her cleavage.

Her campaign is offering T-shirts and marijuana stash boxes displaying her plunging neckline with the words: "More of these boobs" over pictures of other candidates for governor (Republican Bob Riley and Democrat Lucy Baxley) with the words: "And less of these boobs."

"It started out as a joke, Ms Nall told the Associated Press, "but it blew up into something huge".

Ms. Nall has a firm grasp on the issues. You'd know that if you ever heard her speak. If her boobs distract you, she HAS offered to discus the issues in a burkha.

Yes, I own one of the aforementioned t-shirts!

I live in Alabama, and understand Ms. Nall's frustration with the current state administration. However, for the record, she didn't start this but she has certainly ran with it! Whilst I disagree with some of her policies, she may indeed be the better person to lead Alabama for the next four years. If nothing else, she may get enough votes so the Libertarian party won't have to rely on write-in candidates the next election cycle.

You have a very shallow grasp on what is going on. She has a very solid campaign, and it does NOT revolve around her breasts.
It's the media who is giving all the attention to her cleavage and not her agenda.
Will you please start doing some actual reporting?
You are turning Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú into a tabloid.

While it's true Loretta doesn't have the campaign funding of the political machine's fat cats, she is certainly a credible candidate with an impressive platform. She has a plan to make the government work for the people, rather than the people being subjegated by the government, as is currently the case.

Alabama couldn't ask for a better governor than Loretta Nall and the only reason her breasts are an issue is because of male pundits who lose their heads when they're confronted with cleavage. She's got brains to go with those boobs and it's a darn shame that none of the journalists who are titilated by this story are able to .

Ok, so I have been enjoying the national and international media coverage over the last week. But I am becoming increasingly unhappy with all of the stories that make it seem as though I one day decided to whup out 'the twins' and start campaigning with them. So this post is to set the record straight.

In March of this year an Alabama political columnist named Bob Ingram and me as a candidate. I was not contacted before this article ran for an interview or given an opportunity to state my platform. I had never met and still have not met Mr. Ingram although we have talked on the phone.

In that article he used a picture of me which was obtained by the editor of . The editor, instead of contacting my campaign for a campaign photo, decided to search Google images and the photo he used was from a few years ago....long before I formally announced my campaign for Governor of Alabama.

The next week after this article ran Mr. Ingram again referred to me in his column stating that,

I got HOT about it and called him up and asked him what on earth he was thinking. How could he possibly form an opinion about me or my campaign since we had never met.

So, I wrote asking why they ran a photo that has nothing to do with my campaign and expressing dismay at two well respected journalists discussing my anatomy instead of my platform. After all, they never discussed the fact that Lucy Baxley also has breasts and they did not dig up any old photos of her to run in a smear piece.

Then I made the that are all the rage today and shortly after one of my campaign workers came up with the idea of a "Flash for Cash" animation which you can view free of charge at the following links.
($2)
($20)
($50)

So, please, if you are the media GET THE STORY RIGHT if you plan to report on me.

I support Loretta Nall. She is better than the "individuals" who are "representing" me called Republicans and Democrats.

Mea culpa! I have to confess that I did not spend $50 dollars of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú money to check whether "flash for cash" lived up to its promise. Having now been granted a free view of the "flash", I can report that Loretta Nall does not bare her political soul or anything else. I will not ruin the suspense - or undermine her fundraising efforts - by disclosing what is revealed, but her "flash" focuses more on her opponents than on any of her attributes. I have also looked into Ms Nall's policies on a range of issues and found them interesting.

Thank you Guto for the clarification and for taking the time to look at my policies.

As I have said several times on these blogs, the only way to fix our country is to stop voting for the sorry excuse for politicians that are contained within the current 2 main parties.

Many, many, independents are 10 times better than the alternative. I truly hope that Loretta wins and I would vote for her if I was able. Unfortunately, the majority of American’s still think that Republicans or Democrats are the answer.

Something else about independents.. the 2 main parties continually make it difficult for anyone outside to even get on the ballots and rarely will an independent get onto the prime time TV debate which is absolutely critical to any success. Time and time again independents lose in the courts when trying to overcome these issues.

It takes a big man to admit he's wrong Mr. Harri. I take back .

You're a good man. Thanks for pursuing this past the cleavage issue. You're probably the only journalist who bothered to do so. You're a credit to your profession.

This is a tough one to call. Having read Loretta's explanation of the history behind this, it is extremely evident that Mr. Ingram and the editor of the newspaper acted in a manner that was wholly unethical and utterly beyond the pale. Getting mad in a situation like that can be emotionally healthy and a sign of genuine maturity - attributes not normally associated with politicians but probably very desirable.

Ok, so why's this tough to call? Because everything in like has consequences and it is impossible to know what consequences will occur here. America treats women badly and is a good fifty years behind Europe in equality - and Europe's no prize. Doing nothing would have been the worst thing to do, have no illusions there, but that does not make all alternatives automatically good, or automatically anything at all. In politics, healthy is rarely correct and almost never wise.

John, no offense sir, but you've clearly never been to Europe based on this comment.
