The Icelandic theatre company is not widely known, but for the last 10 years, it has been packing out houses across the world with high-octane productions of Romeo + Juliette, Metamorphosis and Woyzeck.

Now its innovative approach has been rewarded with one of the most prestigious accolades in theatre, , which has been won by such luminaries as Peter Brook, Pina Bausch, Robert Lepage and Harold Pinter. The company will receive the award at a ceremony next April.

Now, for the third time, Vesturport is teeming up with and his fellow in a new production based on Goethe's epic work Faust, which the great German polymath is reported as saying was unstageable.

I went to visit rehearsals at London's , and to meet , the ex-gymnast who is the creative force behind the company.

He shares Goethe's work ethic. When he's not creating or performing in Vesturport productions, he is producing movies. And when he's not doing that, he's acting in them - most recently in alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.

My interview with him was broadcast on the Today programme this morning.

    This must indicate that
    1) This is too London centric
    2) This is too Reykjavik centric
    3) You retain the arty irrelevance to reality required of any good arts editor.

On Saturday I had a few drinks with some of your ex colleagues from many years ago. We decided that hearing you on the radio still makes us titter a bit. Some are even more bald than you now!
