Pakistan batting lacks intent

Whether or not the Pakistani players were distracted by the goings on back home is difficult to say, though with family still there they’d be forgiven for having one eye on the .

That said, they must have been disappointed by their score of 239-7 in the at Guwahati.

Their innings was an odd one, making it difficult to judge just how the wicket was playing - 11 runs came off the first over, and 21 off the first three, but then just one run came off the next three, and that was pretty much the pattern for the first 30 overs.

Perhaps the Pakistani batsmen were giving a little too much respect to the Indian spinners, good as their bowling was, and perhaps the ball didn't quite come on to the bat, but they needed to show a little more intent.

It was only when Shahid Afridi arrived at the crease at the fall of a rather sedate Younus Khan that the pace of scoring picked up. But then, in stepped India's 'little master', Sachin Tendulkar, to star with ball rather than bat.

Mohammad Yousuf made an unbeaten 83 for Pakistan

Tendulkar first had the dangerous Afridi stumped with a clever wider delivery which evaded the advancing batsman, and then in his next over had skipper Shoaib Malik caught in the deep, and the momentum seemed to go out of the Pakistani innings. Only Mohammad Yousuf's resilience saw them to a respectable total.

Love him or loathe him, you can’t keep Shoaib Akhtar down for long. In only his , the 'Rawalpindi Express' gave the tourists some hope when he yet again captured the prized scalp of Tendulkar cheaply.

But lacking full match fitness, Shoaib could only bowl full-pelt in three-over spells, so the Indians were only too happy to play him out. It has to be also said that he received scant support from the other Pakistani pacers.

For Sachin’s part, his critics will no doubt point to yet another Shoaib dismissal as further evidence that his reactions are not what they used to be.

In the end a match-winning 105 run partnership between Yuvraj and Man of the Match Dhoni saw India home comfortably with five wickets in hand.

Pakistan will have to bat much better in the rest of this series, and look to post totals which will put some pressure on the Indians, but it has to said their batting seems to be missing one major component - the composed assuredness and reliability of one .

1. India you are not that good, lucky for you pakistans captain is shoaib malik who is horrendous. Best batsman is yousuf and it stops there. India are superior right now to pakistan. pakistan has a wicketkeeper who is dropping everything. so india shud whitewash this pakistan side. Pakistan fans chill out as well, we stink right now shoaib malik is not the best player on the team or a senior player, hence no control or respect in the team. All this equals losing, plus pakistan has no strategy. We are really missing razzaqs devastating hitting. Also everyone couldnt wait to run inzamam out of the team. Well we sure miss him.

These comments are ridiculous. It was a single fifty=over match and already people are speaking as though this is a clear indication of one team's superiority. This game indicates nothing about the two team's relative talent or ability. It is the first game in an away series for Pakistan, and usually it takes a while for teams to acclimatize when they play away from home.

That being said, i think that the Indian line up has gone through fewer shakeups and the team has suffered much fewer upheavals during the past two years or so. I think this has given the Indian team more of a chance to gel than the Pakistani team, which just may give India the edge in the series. But, India are notorious at throwing away advantages and suffering spectacular batting collapses.

In my opinion the series is still wide open.

first of all the reason why india performed well in india they have a very strong aggressive batting line up available in their squad their batsmans are technically better than pakistan example in the youngster robin uttappa here he didn't look so confident bcoz career opener against conventional rival but still managed to hit world class speed pindi express two smashes in a over you wil see him better as the series progress. the matter i would like to raise and comment is that you people indian and pakistani aknowlege the realistic circumstances of the game when india expose or introduce a batsman in international level he adjust himself very rapidly and avail the opportunity the above mentioned guy is the example of this debate.in less then a year career he has scored all around the world including england at the oval when india needed to win and he was the man who lifted india up.look at his strike rate it's amazing for me 106.5.the other example ghambir, the seven years ago yuvraj in 2000 now today he has turned around a pillar in batting india. the reason they know their strength , felling the responsibility and playing with confidence and you people will sooner see this man uttappa he is the replacement of the great wall dravid this is the premature policy and profound vision of the BCCI bcoz dravid going to 35 in january next. i don't know you people respect these comments or not but i first saw uttappa and pathan in pakistan in tri nation under 19 in lahore in 2003 octorber these two were real proved the match winner and today they are in indian side.moreover see indian skipper stepped in 2004 and how better he is today no need to say something everybody knows that then see waseem jaffar and young karthik how much committed they are to open with the bat e.g couple of good opening partnership in 2006 cape town , in bangladesh, then it comes to england at the oval, trent bridge, nottingham.these are the fact people pakistan aknowlege the indian real strength and supermacy in batting.despite losing home series against world champion they were better to watch somegame close to victory but australian are australian they are real challenge for any side.but 4/2 against them not a bad effort.in conclusion they now their bowling limits and batting strength.

for pakistan point of view there are so many issue emerged over the year that why the side is really instable and inconsistent.first which combination has been opening for pakistan over the last four years no answer there are hammed, hafeez, imran farhat, imran nazir, kamran akmal make shift opener shahid afridi up and down the order, then salman butt in and out drama doesnt stop, the current captain himself in earlier days of his career opened the inining then it comes to taufeeq umer. question is which combination was used consistently answer none of the opener were used on regular basis.then who was doing best for team. answer is yasir hameed he is still the best choice for pakistan for his first two years he was going very nicely i dont know why he was scraped or deprived from the team more than 2 and a half year his performance is promising his batting average is solid 37 for onedayer 41 for test but he was not playing for paksitan, when he played against the year last at multan against WI scored 71 sanjay was so astonished to rammeez raja lifting the issue why this man is not playing for the side, on rameez point of view unsatisfied replied he is so slow.paksitan in current circumstances needs solid and steady opener like him. the other should be chosen from salman butt or imran farhat who is suffering nowdays breavement of not including in the team.farhat was also going very well since 2006 karachi test against india from that to onward srinlankan tour, england scored 91 . 33. 34 then against wi at home scored some good knocks then south africa wasnt bad i am worried he is agreesive average 33 not playing why pakistani people should ask the selector dont put down the confidence and moral of the guys for you own liking or loathing do work for the betterment of the side. the other test flaws are misbah now including after a span of 5 years in those years he was the leading scorer in domestic but former captain sturrborn man didnt allow the selector to nominate him for the team same conduct was adopted against left hander asim kamal who produced 9 half centuries in a short career of 12 matches i remember when ever he played he scored runs despite of one or two failure knocks.the most inconsistent faisal iqbal had given chances on regular basis and the result we know just failur no improvement and today we dont have any middle order batsman besides yousuf 1998 and yunus 2000 have we produced any batsman in these seven years answer no the two talked about were not allowed by inzi bcoz his own carreer was in dread.these are the realities of inconvenince performance of pakistani team.bowling havent been a top issue there are so many guys waiting for the call najaf, rauf, irshad.but one more failure is why sami is not playing despite bowled well in abu dhabi against the island in may 2007 he is a good bowler he should be given a task a role that you have to bowl on a consistent tight line according to the field he needs some coaching and i am sure this man pakis coach lawson can do this job effectively if selection committe include sami and give the special task to coach to work with sami i am sure he will be a different bowler altogether

in pakitan what needs to be done is select guys who should mature having age of atleast 24. good enviable record in domestic seasons. can be able to take the intl cricket pressure and be stopped debut rosters for one or two years.
if they sort out these issue then i think available talent pakistan has got is very difficult to stop them from wins.they will turn out to be a better side of the world level to australia.

Remember last time a weak Pakistani team without Shoeb and Asif came from behind to win one day series emphatically on indian soil. So sit back and wait for the remaining matches. As cricket lovers both indians and pakistanis need exciting cricket.

Cricket is a team game, you need to support each other specially younger players.
If you donot want to get ride of him teach him a lession or two of sacrifice and unselfish and team cricket.

ALl of the indians people should relax and calm themselves because Pakistna have still won more games than india. Now (including last odi) both teams played 109 matches and Pakistan won 64 and india won 23 and 4 matches had no result. Pakistna won more matches :)

Pakistan have mostly young and inexperinced players and i belive pakistan is preparing a team for next world cup, so its important for Pak to find good players to next world cup.

I will give Indian players the credit for playing good cricket.

Pakistani batsmen have let down our team. Akmal, Misba, Afridi and Sohaib Malik specially. 4 inconsistent pakistani batsmen was the difference between Indias win and Pakistans lose.

Its plain to see the pak team has a lot of problems on and off the field. I dont expect pakistan to win either series. What does make this series closely fought is the fact that the Indian side is almost as poor. The Indian team lacked intent in its bowling and should have prevented Pak scoring more than 200. As much as Indian seamers have improved, you never get the feeling that they are gonna knock sides over regularly. The Indian batting team profited from numerous gifts, customary drop catches which Pak cricket is obliged to offer. Reliance on old has beens like Tendulkar and Ganguly are holding the team back. This Indian team should have pasted the pak team, in this match and the whole series. The fact that they cant tells us a lot more about India's lack of intent to become a great side.

Anyhoo, I watched the game and being a HUGE Pakistan fan, I was quite disappointed at their batting. They had a great start, but a dismal end. The bowling attack was somewhat up to par, but not good enough to win. Whether the political situation is to be blamed for the defeat, who knows. The bottom line is the team needs to toughen up for Game 2.

India did do a good job in a lot of areas, but their fielding, I thought was in disarray. Misfields toward the end can cost any team a match and lucky for them, they got away with not a huge total!

It's great to see two rival nations compete in the world's greatest game. I just hope and pray that the political situation does not play any part in the series.

Cheers!!

Pakistan team is pretty strong and well capable of beating India, but may be it's a waiting game, play well and win, I guess that goes both ways. India is doing well at the moment, most of the guys are in form right now and they have plenty of choices. Praveen Kumar might surprise us all with his bat and ball, plenty more to come from Utthapa's bat, Gambhir still needs to get a 100, Sachin needs to fire.
