Fans of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú daytime drama The Indian Doctor will be pleased to see the programme returning for a second series on Monday.
Ahead of the start of the new series Sanjeev Bhaskar, who returns as Dr Prem Sharma, will be talking to Jamie and Louise on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio Wales on Monday morning about the Welsh-filmed drama.

The first series, which was first broadcast in November 2010, proved popular with viewers, with a record number of people contributing comments on Sanjeev's blog post for the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú TV blog.
The new series of The Indian Doctor continues the story of Dr Prem Sharma, the high-flying Delhi graduate who has come to Britain in the early 1960s as one of the first wave of Indian doctors invited by the health minister, Enoch Powell.
This time around Prem has to deal with three different complications; a new adversary in the form of evangelist preacher Herbert Todd (Mark Heap), an outbreak of smallpox that threatens to bring catastrophe to the village, plus the arrival of his dreaded mother-in-law Pushpa.

Actress Ayesha Dharker returns as Dr Sharma's wife Kamini, and Welsh actors starring in the drama include Mali Harries, Alun ap Brinley, Ifan Huw Dafydd and Naomi Everson.

It's better made than many of the prime-time programmes like Upstairs Downstairs, Death in Paradise etc both of which I enjoy but not half as much as the Indian Doctor. Indeed I think it is on par with Call the Midwife. I suppose being a day-time programme it is percieved as being on par with silly lightweight daytime soaps like Doctors, Neighbours etc.
Thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. Only disappointment was that it was ONLY 5 episodes.
Can someone please explain why it was only 5 Episodes given the success of the first series which was not even well publicised?
How about another 5 episodes in May-June and then another 5 episodes in September-October? PLEASE.
I only got to know that this was on as we were told on the blog last year it would return for second series and so promptly in the new year I scoured the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's website for news. Thus I had been on the look out for it. Indeed, I was hoping the first series would be repeated as a prelude but alas no!
Oh, please DO NOT go all 'arty' and 'creative' with future episodes. Stick with the core fundamentals.
If the budget is a problem then why not join forces with the evening programming or Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú-3 or Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú-4 and show the episodes in the day and repeat in the evening for the soles returning home from work etc. How much was the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú paying for Mad Men or those European dramas?

I think it will prove popular not just in Indian sub-continent but across most of the Commonwealth countries. Even possibly the USA - the Welsh accent is clear enough!
That should provide fair funding for more episodes.

But then I love to watch most British/foreign shows & films. The accents are no problem. Am also a fan of Outnumbered. And Downton Abbey, of course!
